John Faulkner Kain Obituary
JOHN FAULKNER KAIN Born in Birmingham, Alabama on February 10, 1921, John passed away on April 26, 2013. A grandson of immigrants from Ireland and Wales, John grew up in the south. The family moved to California during John's first years in a Birmingham college. While attending San Jose State University in CA, where he met his future wife Barbara Burke Keach, John joined the naval reserve and transferred to the University of Columbia where he trained to be in the navy when World War II began. While in the Navy, John became an Executive Officer. After 4 years he returned to California where he married Barbara and settled in her hometown of Riverside where they raised their family of six children, and remained for the rest of their lives. Barbara passed away in 1998. John founded the home improvement business Sun Boss in 1947, which continues to thrive under the ownership of John's son, David Kain. He was a two time past president of the University Area Kiwanis Club and Kiwanis Fellow. He created the Senior Citizen's Kiwanis Christmas dinner which was provided for Riverside senior citizens without families every year for 40 years. He bowled on the Kiwanis bowling team at Tava Lanes for 47 years. John took great pride in his family and his business, and would often say "Life doesn't owe you anything. The greatest thing you can learn is to be an independent person who can take care of yourself. The sky is the limit. You can be whatever you want to be." He lived a full life of 92 years and through the highest highs and lowest lows he always came through stronger than before. He was also known for his love of singing. He is survived by Anne (Art) Kain, Carrie (Dan) Clay, John (Jan) Kain, Katie (Nancy) Kain, Barbara (Pete) Peterson, and David (Julie) Kain, and grandchildren Julie, Johnny, Spencer, Ina, Michael Scott, Sarah, Michael Winslow, John David, Benjamin, Charlie, Jessica, Davey, and Sean. A service will be held Saturday, May 4, 2013, at 1:30 pm with reception to follow at the Air Force Village West Chapel Fellowship, 17050 Arnold Dr, Riverside, CA 92518, 951-567-5137.
