JOHN GILBERT MERRITT Obituary
JOHN GILBERT MERRITT aka "Mr. Gill" "The King" passed away July 5, 2014 at Hemet Valley Hospital. He was born September 21, 1937 in Gladwin, Michigan. He is survived by his wife of 50 years and best friend Jo Ann Merritt. His son John Gilbert Merritt Jr.; grandson Anthony Gilbert Merritt, and his other best friend a black lab named Boo Boo who also lives in Hemet; his sister Audrey Merritt Brewer of Michigan; his cousins the Taylors of Las Vegas and Michigan; his self-adopted granddaughter Rachel Ramos and her husband Sergeant Christopher Ramos of the United States Marine Corps, also living in Hemet; the extended Ryan and Ramos family; and family and friends of over 40 years. The Byroms and Waller families and special friends Jim and Carolyn Witten and Karen Schroeder amongst many more who loved him. He loved to work on cars, race cars and show off his 1969 classic Torino. His biggest love was painting anything from cars for Earl Schibb and George Barris to painting houses. He loved being outdoors so he started his own painting business called Mr. Gills Painting in 1980 in Torrance and continued when he moved to Hemet in 1990. You could always find him painting somewhere in Hemet, eating at local restaurants and telling jokes. He loved fishing and was very patriotic. He loved the U.S.A. and the American flag. He had the upmost respect for our service members. Services will be held Saturday, July 19, 2014 at 1:00 pm at Unity Chapel, 140 North Buena Vista St. in Hemet on the corner of Buena Vista and St. John's.
