John Hall Mead

1939 - 2017 Obituary Condolences

Age 77, who resided in Scottsdale, Arizona, passed away on April 18, 2017. Born July 6, 1939 in Gilroy, California, John was an only son to Riley Otto (Roy) and Myrtle Varie Mead. John was a family man who was married to Janet (Coufal) Mead for 41 years. John and Janet had 5 daughters: Regina (Thompson), Leslie (Becker), Nicole (Young), Joy (Condie), and Kim (Sumner). John and Janet were blessed with 11 grandchildren to date: Taylor, Lauren, Margaux, Kaleigh, Connor, Cole, Grant Parker, Amelia, Aiden, and Brynn. John met Janet while attending Creighton University School of Dentistry, and while Janet attended St. Catherine's School of Nursing. The two were wed January, 4, 1964 in Omaha, Nebraska at St. Agnes Catholic Church. John began his dental career in private practice, served in the United States Air Force for 20 years, and rose to the rank of Colonel before he returned to private practice, a combined 35 years as a doctor who served his country well and helped many. He retired in 2002 and resided in Riverside with his wife until her passing in 2005. John was an avid reader, often reading a book a day. He enjoyed golfing, hunting, and fishing as a younger man, and was known for his dry sense of humor and sharp wit. During John's military career, he lived in California, Nebraska, Wyoming, Alaska, and Thailand. John would say his greatest achievements in life was his marriage to Janet, and the family they created. He will be laid to rest at Riverside National Cemetery in honor of his service to our great country, with his loving wife. His family will miss him deeply. John can best be described by one of his favorite classic movies as "The Quiet Man."
A celebration of Catholic Mass will be held at St. Catherine's Catholic Church in Riverside, California, on Thursday, April 27th at 12 pm, with burial services immediately following. John's family will be gathering privately following the services, and asks for your kind prayers for healing and peace.
