John Herman Boere Jr. Obituary
JOHN HERMAN BOERE, JR., 89, of Menifee, California, passed away on December 2, 2016 peacefully in his sleep at his home. John was born in Long Beach, California on October 14, 1927 to Johannes Henricus Boere and Edna Margaret (Mais) Boere. He grew up and lived on the John Boere Dairy on Olive Street, Hynes, Ca later named Alondra Blvd., Paramount, Ca started by his parents in 1925. He attended St. Anthony and Our Lady of the Victory Catholic Schools until the 8th grade. At the age of 14, he put in long hours of milking, feeding the animals and running the business working ten hours a day, seven days a week. He took over the ownership of the dairy at 19. He married Mary Josephine Kuppens on May 8, 1952 at Our Lady of the Rosary Catholic Church in Paramount, CA in a double wedding ceremony with Samuel Konyn and Catherine Kuppens, Mary's sister. After honeymooning in Yosemite, John and Mary returned to the dairy and started a family. Together they had ten children, 6 boys and 4 girls, John, Gene, Mary, Kathy, Beverly, George, Jim, Patty, Bill, and Michael, 9 of whom all attended Our Lady of the Rosary school, which John always donated the steer for the annual raffle. John loved hunting and fishing. He volunteered as an usher for the Catholic Church. He donated many hours and money to helping others. He was also part of the "Save Paramount for Paramount" group that stopped Long Beach from taking Paramount and incorporating it into part of Long Beach. He operated a cash and carry/bottling plant dairy in Paramount for 26 years. He owned the last operating dairy farm in the city of Paramount. In the summer of 1978, he relocated his dairy and family to Sun City, CA, later renamed Menifee, CA where he continued to work long hours farming and dairying, until he no longer was able to get on the tractor. He and Mary sold the cows in 2007. His mother always told him, "John, use your head, watch and learn. You don't always need an education to be successful." With that, he was self-taught in many fields including being a butcher, surveying, excavation of his own ranch and dairy facilities, mechanics, construction, and building many things. He is survived by nine of his children, John (Denise) Boere, Gene Boere, Mary (Chris) Smith, Kathy (Dale) Bankson, Beverly (Anthony) Vander Hulst, George (Tammy) Boere, Jim Boere, Patty Southfield, and Bill (Kim) Boere; his twenty-eight grandchildren, Jennifer (Allen) Souza, Nicole Boere, John (Tiffany) Boere, Laura (Jeremy )Antrim, Gina (Ben) Jones, Grant Boere, Cicero Smith, Christian Smith, Jake(Kari) Bankson, Maggie (Spencer) High, Jack (MargieKay) Vander Hulst, Mark (April) Vander Hulst, Diane Vander Hulst, John Vander Hulst, Julia (Eric) Witzka, Joseph Boere, James (Kelly) Boere, Veronica Boere, Steven Boere, Marijo (Steven) Faria, Adrian Southfield, Nick (Aubrey) Southfield, Case Southfield, Kayla Gillespie, John Gillespie, Brent Boere, Michael Boere, and Matthew Boere; and 19 great-grandchildren plus four due shortly; and many nieces and nephews; and sisters-in-law, Catherine Konyn, Minnie Sandoval, Ginger Kuppens, Carmen Dutro, Johanna (Pete) Van Winden. He was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Mary Boere; his son, Michael Boere; his grandson Bo Bankson; his parents, John and Edna Boere; and his sister, Margaret Warmerdam. There will be visitation from 5:00 to 9:00pm on Thursday, December 8, 2016 at Evans Brown Mortuary, 27010 Encanto, Sun City, CA and a rosary for John H. Boere, Jr. will be at 7pm. at the mortuary. The funeral services will be on Friday, December 9, 2016 at St. Vincent Ferrer Catholic Church, 27931 Murrieta Road, Sun City, CA at 10:30 am. A graveside service will follow the funeral at Menifee Valley Memorial Park, 26770 Murrieta Rd., Sun City, CA. There will be a luncheon following the graveside service, location to be announced.
