1929 - 2014 Obituary Condolences
JOHN P. KABEL Known by those who loved him as a "Jack" of all trades due to his uncanny ability to fix things, John P. Kabel entered the world on March 1, 1929, in Fostoria, Ohio and passed away on February 18, 2014 in Riverside, California. He is preceded in death by his son John, and is survived by his wife Nancy; daughter Mary; and sons, Jim, Mark, and Jeff. He leaves behind his three beloved granddaughters: Rachel, Elyse, Katey and six treasured grandsons: Daniel, Matthew, Benjamin, Jack, John and Nick. "Jack" Kabel graduated from Riverside Poly High School in 1947 before joining the United States Navy in 1948, serving tours of duty in Tokyo and Hawaii. After receiving an honorable discharge from the Navy in 1952, Jack entered San Diego State University in 1953. In 1955, he married Nancy Ann Turcott at St. Francis De Sales Church in Riverside and earned a teaching credential in 1958 from San Diego State. His teaching career included stints at Sunnymead Elementary School (1960-1972) and Mead Valley Elementary School from 1976-1990. He served as principal at Mead Valley from 1970-1975. Mr. Kabel stayed busy following his retirement in 1990, keeping happily engaged with a wide range of pursuits including model trains, piano lessons, and the maintenance of a 1968 green GT Mustang California Special. During his teaching career, Jack cherished the cabin he built in Wrightwood, California. Private family services will be held. The family requests that in lieu of flowers be made to Disabled American Veterans.
