JOHN RODGERS MILLER, M.D. Dr. John Miller was born November 5, 1931 in Riverside, CA. He was the son of Dr. Erwin P. Miller and Mryl Rodgers Miller and the brother of the late James W. Miller. John passed away at Ronald Regan Hospital UCLA on June 30th, 2014. He was a graduate of Riverside Poly, Class of 1949 and earned his B.S. (53) and M.D. (57) at Stanford University. His specialty training in the field of ophthalmology was at Stanford University Hospital and San Francisco Presbyterian Medical Center. In 1962 he returned to Riverside with his wife Joan Andreas Miller and joined his father's practice. A fourth generation physician, Dr. Miller was devoted to his patients and the Riverside community for 37 years. He retired in 1999 to pursue his numerous hobbies and activities. John was a swimmer, diver, gymnast, windsurfer, water skier, power boater, fisherman, hunter, skier, dancer, musician, traveler, camper, golfer, carpenter, inventor, adventurer, healer, photographer, and story teller. John was kind, thoughtful, dedicated, gentle, caring, loyal, loving, honest, humble, selfless, intelligent, creative, fun, and a true gentleman. In June, he celebrated his 59th year of marriage with his wife Joan. John was a devoted father to his three daughters and his sons-in-law: Wendy and Wayne Hughes, Michele and Ron del Toro, and Sheryl and Bud Murdock. He loved his 7 grandchildren: Kylie, Skylar, Todd, Matt, Melanie, Makenzie and Delaney. Besides his family, John's great passion was sailing. He participated in regattas sailing the seas of the South Pacific, Caribbean, Hawaii, Mexico and the California coast. John's final voyage to eternity navigated him towards True North with a following sea of love and prayers. In remembrance for the love John had for the wind and sea, a memorial fund has been established in his name to support the Riverside Community Sailing Program at Fairmont Park. A private memorial service will be held in celebration of his life at California State Citrus Park on July 17th.
