John William Boon Obituary
JOHN WILLIAM BOON Age 59, passed away at his residence in Riverside on Dec. 28, 2012. His loving sister Cindy and niece Ashley were at his side. John's wife of 28 years, Marilyn Sweet, predeceased him Dec. 17, 2012. Both lost their battle with cancer. John came to the U.S.A. in 1955, at 2 years of age, with his father Geoffrey William Boon, mother Joyce (Pollard) Boon and brother Anthony Peter Boon. The family initially settled in Lowell, MA, but in 1966 his father saw opportunity out west. The family, which now included his two sisters Linda and Cindy, moved to Petaluma, CA. John attended Petaluma High School and then in 1972 enlisted in the US Air Force. He was stationed at Keesler AFB, Biloxi, MS; Tyndall AFB, near Panama City, FL; Incirlik Air Base near Adana, Turkey; and March AFB, Riverside County, CA where he was discharged in 1978. John attained the rank of sergeant and was awarded the Good Conduct Medal as well as the Air Force Commendation Medal for his service as a Legal Services Specialist with the Office of the Staff Judge Advocate at Tyndall AFB. After his discharge from the Air Force John made his home in Riverside on Versailles Place. After graduating from Riverside City College John owned and operated his own grading business. In 1986 he went to work for Colt Engineering as their Vice President of Operations. After 15 years with Colt he worked 7 years an an Estimator - Project Manager for Rialto Construction. John presented a tough male exterior, but he had a tender heart and a smile to prove it. He loved animals and soon after setting up residence in Riverside acquired two parrots Wench and Capt. Jack and a dog named Booner Buddy. He had a passion for golf. Weekends were his time to play a round with friends and enjoy a good cigar. John is survived by a brother Anthony Boon of Carmel Valley, CA; two sisters Linda Cox of Scottsdale, AZ and Cindy Davis of White Salmon, WA. Also surviving are nephews Christopher Boon of Santa Rosa, CA; Robert Reagan, Scottsdale; Christopher Davis, of White Salmon; Patrick Aplin, Scottsdale; nieces Ashley Luce, White Salmon; Brianna Boon, Santa Rosa; grand nephews Christian Davis, Rohnert Park, CA; Christopher Boon Jr., Santa Rosa; McKenzie Davis, Tracy, CA; and grand niece Amiya Luce, White Salmon. Memorial Service will be conducted Friday, Jan. 25, 2013 at 1PM in Akes Family's "Chapel Of The Chimes".
