Joseph Carl Simmons Obituary
JOSEPH CARL SIMMONS Joe entered into this life on November 20, 1937 and passed away into eternal life on October 17, 2013. Joe, Carl to his family, was born at home in Douglas, Arizona. His mother, Nellie Lucille Ryan-Mortenson, raised him, initially, in a two room house with a dirt floor. Joe and his mother later moved to Pomona where he attended Pomona High School. In 1956, Joe enlisted in the United States Marine Corps where he served until 1960. In the marines, he worked as an aircraft communications and navigation systems specialist. He was honorably discharged after achieving the rank of Sergeant. Joe earned his Bachelor's Degree in Economics from California State College at Fullerton in 1969. He had a successful career at Hughes Aircraft/GM/ Raytheon and retired as Director of Finance for the Naval and Maritime business unit of Hughes Aircraft Company's Weapons Systems Segment. Joe also served as Financial Controller of the Displays Division of Ground Systems Group Fullerton and is credited for the operations turn-around of the Hughes Power Supply Company (HPSC) and the eventual divestiture of that operation. These are just a few of the several titles and accomplishments Joe attained in his over thirty year career. For the past 51 years Joe lived and raised his family in the Corona area. Joe was a hard working man and loving husband, father, and grandfather. As patriarch of his family, he set an exemplary example of how to step up, be responsible, and walk with honor through life. Above all else, Joe enjoyed nothing more than spending time with his family. Camping, worldwide travel, river and desert trips were among his family's favorite pastimes. He was active with his sons in Boy Scouts (both Eagle Scouts) and instrumental in his daughter's academic achievements. Joe was also an avid woodworker, builder, and craftsman. It is a known fact that he turned down promotions in his career that would take time away from his family. Joe leaves behind his loving wife Sue Simmons; son Eric (wife Crissy); son Wesley (wife Heidi); and daughter Heidi. His four granddaughters Madison, Meghan, Brooke, and Brenna will miss his warm lap, hugs, and funny jokes. Services will be held November 2nd at 11:00 am at Thomas Miller Mortuary in Corona. In lieu of flowers, the family asks for contributions to be made to the Wounded Warrior Project-P.O. Box 758517, Topeka, Kansas 66675, in honor of Joseph Carl Simmons.
