Joseph Henry Wolter Obituary
JOSEPH HENRY WOLTER passed away August 4, 2015 in Riverside, CA, at the age of 84. He was born in the winter of 1931 in Minnesota, the 8th child of 9 and the runt of the litter. After growing tired of being used as the deadweight for the family plow, Joe left the family farm at an early age. He worked many odd jobs, such as a migrant farmhand, a cowpoke in Montana, and a water truck driver in Death Valley, on his way to San Diego where he met and fell in love with his bride, Frances. The young couple married in 1954 in Covina, CA and settled down to raise, ultimately, 7 children. In 1961 the family with 5 kids so far, moved to Riverside, bought a house and joined the local Catholic Church, Our Lady of Perpetual Help (OLPH). In 1964 they had fraternal twins to round out the family clan at 7. Joe was an early technology adopter and worked within the Federal Government Consulting and Computer Analysis Industry in the 1960 and 1970s. He ran his own consulting business for many years and worked as a computer systems administrator at a local construction company in the 80s and 90s. Joe enjoyed spending time with his family, especially in the outdoors, hiking, rock climbing, and camping. He was a Boy Scout Troop leader for many years with his sons, he was an avid sky watcher and joined the Astrologic Society as a founding member. He loved to spend time in Joshua Tree with his kids rock climbing and scrambling amongst the desert scape. He loved to tell stories, long elaborate jokes, and play cards; but his favorite pastime was watching Dodger games with Frances. Joe was active at Our Lady of Perpetual Church as a Eucharistic Minister, helping with special celebrations. He enjoyed volunteering at the church food pantry and was obsessed with making sure the church fountain was clean. He and Frances volunteered with Riverside Meals on Wheels for 10 years, delivering food and making friends with those less able and in need. Joe is survived by his beloved wife of 61 years, Frances; children Theresa (Bill), Mark, Dave, Barbara, John, (Krista), Rosemary and James (Victoria); grandchildren Evan, Sean, Hannah, Nathan, Keenan, Brittany, Whitney, McKenzie, Max, Amber and Owen; great grandchildren Jade and Ryan; a sister, Rosemary and many nieces and nephews. A mass will be held at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church, in Riverside, at 10:00am on August 17, 2015, followed by a Celebration of Life in the church hall. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to either Riverside Meals on Wheels or OLPH food pantry.
