Julius I. "Toss" Nicas Obituary
JULIUS I. "TOSS" NICAS Toss was born on Aug. 24, 1924 in San Diego, CA, the youngest of 3 brothers. He passed away on Jan. 14, 2014 at the age of 89. Toss lived in Inglewood, CA for 44 years. After graduating from Inglewood High School in 1942, he joined the United States Navy and served on the USS LST 479 during WWII in the South Pacific where he earned 7 battle stars during that time. After the war, Toss worked at Todd's Ship Yard, AiResearch, Dan Gurney's All-American Racers and TITECH International as a certified heli-arc welder. Toss married his wife Elizabeth(Liz) in 1957 and moved to Corona in 1968 with their two sons Robert and Daniel. His retirement years were kept very busy with his enjoyment of watching boxing, traveling, reading and visits with friends and family. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Liz; two sons, Robert (Jody) and Daniel, both of Norco; one granddaughter Amy Nicas; several nieces, nephews and friends. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, Jan. 23, 2014 at 11:00 am at Thomas Miller Mortuary in Corona followed by interment in the Crestlawn Memorial Park.
