June Lorine Joy Obituary
JUNE LORINE JOY April 17, 1921 - June 20, 2013 June Lorine Hickman was born at home on April 17, 1921, on a small farm in Northwest Oklahoma, about a half mile from the Kansas border. She was the eldest of three children, including a brother Ralph and a sister Norma Jean. June had two children by her first marriage to Chauncy Fouts: Roger, born in 1939 and Carol, born in 1941. She had three children by her second husband, Emmett Tackett: Karen, born in 1946, Tania, born in 1950, and Eric, born in 1953. She survived the death of her first two husbands and three of her children. During her long life of 92 years, June lived through the roaring twenties, the Great Depression of the 30's, the Black Blizzards of the Oklahoma Dust Bowl, WWII, the Korean War, the Vietnam War, the first lunar landing, 16 U.S. Presidents and the continuing decline of civilization through to the present. June was first introduced to the Truth by the Coleporteurs in Havana, Illinois, in the early 40's, during a temporary residency in Illinois. She recognized it immediately as the truth, but lost contact with the brothers during a particularly unstable period of her life, during which she lost her husband Chauncy in death and relocating several times before settling in Riverside, California, where she was contacted in the door-to-door ministry by Albert & Alice Castiglia years later in Riverside, California. On March 15, 1969, June married Walter Joy; they were long time friends and members of the same congregation for many years. They remained together until June's death. She had a great faith in Jehovah's promises and remained faithful to the end. Other than the Truth, family and friends were most important to June. In addition to her own five children, she had four step children, 14 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild. Her friends, too numerous to list here valued her friendship and many were life-long friends. A Memorial service for June will be held at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, 6674 Arlington Ave., Riverside on Saturday, June 29 at 5pm.
