Kaaren Louise Mitchell Meixner Earley Swindle Obituary
KAAREN LOUISE MITCHELL MEIXNER EARLEY SWINDLE Age 73, passed away at home on November 30, 2015. Predeceased by her husband Ronald Swindle, she is survived by her brother Thomas Mitchell of Lemoore, CA; her children Tamara Hunter of Winchester, CA and Bill Earley of San Diego, CA; 5 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. Kaaren was born on July 27, 1942 in Los Angeles, CA to parents Grace and Ronald Mitchell. She grew up in Carbon Canyon, CA. She graduated from Brea Olinda High School in 1960 where she excelled at drama and debate. As a young lady Kaaren was a Job's Daughter and later became an Eastern Star. A proud Republican, as a young woman Kaaren actively volunteered on many campaigns including the 1966 campaigns of Ronald Reagan for Governor and Pete Wilson for California State Assembly. Kaaren held many different sales positions in her early years. Her first real professional break came when she was hired as a Recruiter for Eastridge Personnel Services in San Diego. That ultimately launched her to what would become a chance of a lifetime with Roadway Express in 1985. It wasn't long before Roadway management noticed Kaaren's strong character, intellect and energy. She also had a knack to find the best and brightest and successfully recruited them to Roadway. Kaaren was a trailblazer. She was the first to be hired straight into Roadway management without a college degree, first to be hired without having taken Roadway's management training program and the first to be hired into a position that was especially created for her and her special talents. Kaaren was one of two to open up the Western Region for Roadway Package System (RPS) which later merged with Federal Express in 1998. Based on doctor's orders, Kaaren retired in February 2002 as Regional Human Resources Manager. Kaaren was given the gift of a second life over 30 years ago when she miraculously survived a serious one-car accident in the backwoods of Oregon. She did, however, shatter 6 vertebrae in the accident. The balance of her life included over 20 surgeries on her neck or back, along with chronic daily pain. Yet Kaaren's strong character, determination, love of life and people, and sense of humor about her situation helped her to overcome her significant physical challenges. She often traveled on business throughout the United States, including Hawaii, in a body cast. Her positive attitude, infectious smile and hearty laugh helped her to overcome this and other obstacles. After 2 marriages and being single for a number of years, Kaaren attended her 25-year class reunion at Brea Olinda High School. While there she reconnected with her high school sweetheart, Ronnie Swindle. Within a few short weeks she and Ronnie, along with their respective mothers and one of Kaaren's closest friends, went to Las Vegas in Ronnie's limo. They finally got married. Their two mothers would later share, "Finally, they are doing it right." Kaaren and Ronnie loved to take road trips. They enjoyed the Four Queens, traveling to visit with friends and family, or just exploring. They continued to live and play as teenagers until Ronnie's death in 2002. After Ronnie's passing, Kaaren spent even more time with family, shopping, reading and following her other multiple interests including sports and politics. Kaaren will be remembered for her larger-than-life smile, strength, energy and unique way. Kaaren Swindle - mother, sister, grandmother, great-grandmother, friend -- will be missed, but never forgotten. A Celebration of Life service will be held Saturday, December 19, 2015 at 10:00 AM. The location is Calvary Chapel French Valley Worship Center. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her name to or the American Red Cross of San Diego/Imperial Counties.
