Katherine & Donald Pridy Obituary
KATHERINE E. PRIDY DONALD E. PRIDY Our beloved mother, Katherine E. Pridy, entered Heaven on April 5, 2013, after a long and hard-fought battle with heart disease. Mom leaves behind a loving family and many friends and neighbors who were by her side until her loving and caring heart could no longer sustain her. Mom was preceded in death by our father and her husband, Donald E. Pridy, who passed away on April 7, 2010. They were married for 68 years and had four children. Mom was born in Los Angeles on January 27, 1925 to Robert and Lulu Berg. Dad was born on November 24, 1919 in Missoula, Montana and was raised by his mother Della and her husband, Roy Pridy. Katherine and Don were married in Yuma, Arizona on July 8, 1942 and made Norwalk their home for over 60 years. They loved ocean fishing and, if there is a fishing boat in Heaven, I am sure that is where she will be reunited with our Dad. Our family is so fortunate to have special memories of fishing trips with Mom and Dad, and of the many trips to Las Vegas. Kate was fun loving, generous and had a great sense of humor. She was an avid reader, loved playing Scrabble and completing crossword puzzles. She made beautiful crocheted, knitted and counted cross-stitched items that are displayed in her children's homes. Upon her retirement from Cole of California, she did part time work in Costco and local markets demonstrating and preparing foods. Don was an avid sports fan and loved to play harmless practical jokes. He served in the Army and was stationed in the Aleutian Islands during World War 11. Upon retirement as a mechanic with Firestone Tire and Rubber in South Gate, he began raising love birds in the back yard. He enjoyed taking their dog Sandy to the doughnut shop where she and Dad made many friends. Mom and Dad are survived by their four children: Candice Stringer Harpole, Chris (Katy) Pridy, Patrick Pridy, Colleen Pridy and "#3" Kristine Schumann; grandchildren Wayde (Carrie) Stringer, Brent (Lee) Stringer, Nicole Pridy, Casey (Amber) Pridy, David (Charlyn) Pridy and Marie Pridy; and great grandchildren Travis, Chance, Sierra, AnnaLee, Liliana, Isaiah and Luke. Mom and Dad are also survived by their loyal dog, Sandy. Our family wishes to give special thanks to Mom's caregiver, Emmeline, and her nurse, Norma whose kindness and care will not be forgotten. Per their wishes, their ashes will be scattered in their beloved ocean. Our Mom and Dad will be dearly missed, always loved and never forgotten. No matter where you go, however far away, A part of me will be with you And a part of you, with me, will stay.
