KATHRYN L. POWELL GARD Born Dec. 17, 1924 to Maedell and William Jackson Powell in Ragan, NE., passed away peacefully at home on Nov. 21, 2012. Our hearts are saddened to tell so many people that were a part of Kay (friends), Kathy (relatives), Nana (family) of her passing. Survived by her adoring husband of 63 years, Arlo; children Valerie Gard, Mark (Annette) Gard; grandchildren Randi (Clinton) Hitt, Stefani (Zakk) Morris, Lane and Ariel Gard; great-grandchildren Cooper Houston, Leeah Shaw, Kailey Morris. 2 nieces Maedell (Harold) Dixon, Tanda (Barry) Tindell. Preceded in death by her parents and 3 sisters Evelyn, Margaret, Marjorie. Her accomplishments in life were many: BA-Univ. of Nebraska/Kearney (active with the So. Cal Alumni Assoc.), Women's Council-Inter-Fraternity Council Honors-Xi Phi, Pi Omega Pi, Sigma Tau Delta-Mortar Board, Who's Who Among students in American Universities & Colleges, Attended U.C.R. & Univ. of Redlands, Social Sororities-Gamma Phi Beta/Kappa Kappa Iota (teachers), taught for 4 years in Nebraska, then for 30 years for the Riverside Unified School District; PTA award from Liberty Elementary School- on National Outstanding Teacher Award, active-C.T.R.A. Charter Member of Wesley United Methodist Church; member-United Methodist Women and P.E.O. - Chapter J. Volunteer and Supporter of the homeless; wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother. She was the epitome of the True Person, never spoke bad about anyone. She always tried to help anyone she could and she gave with her heart. She requested no services/flowers. Memorial donations are suggested to . Burial will be private at Riverside National Cemetery. Our family would also like to thank Delta Hospice for their love and care of Nana.
