Katie "Kay" Petersen Obituary
KATIE "KAY" PETERSEN Riverside resident Katie "Kay" Petersen passed away peacefully in Riverside Friday, January 16, 2015 surrounded by loved ones. Kay was born December 3, 1930 in Anadarko, Oklahoma to Leroy King and Elva McMillan. Kay has four sisters, Jodi Levitt and Michelle Shappie of Las Vegas NV and she was preceded in death by Lois Gee and Lucretia Pearson. Kay leaves behind her son John Ginger and his wife Toni Ginger, her daughter Cheri Lawrence and her husband Jeff Lawrence. She also leaves behind her 7 grandchildren, Christine Lawrence, Joshua Ginger, Elizabeth Ginger, Jonathan Ginger, Jordan Ginger, Victoria Ginger, and Tiffany Ginger. To know Kay was to love her. She had a spunk and zest for life like no other! Her quick wit and sense of humor always had people around her laughing. Kay enjoyed jazz music and LOVED Frank Sinatra. In fact she shared with a family member/care taker Tami Fogg that the first person she wanted to see in heaven was Ole' Blue Eyes himself. Even with age her memory remained sharp as a tack and loved to sing along to his music. When her son John opened John L Ginger Masonry in Riverside she was right by his side helping him out with whatever tasks needed to be done. She loved working there and didn't retire until she was 77. Rainy days were her all time favorite and she was a huge fan of the Dodgers and Lakers. Every summer Kay would spend a week at Laguna Surf and would host bbq's for her family, shop, dine, and take in a show at Pageant of the Masters. Kay loved life and loved living. We will miss her terribly but hold the memories of her close to our heart. We ask in lieu of flowers to please make a donation to The Second Harvest food bank http://www.shfb.org/ a cause which was important to Kay.
