Kenneth Joseph Quigley Obituary
KENNETH JOSEPH QUIGLEY of Hemet, CA passed away on Dec. 28, 2012 in Escondido, CA at the age of 96. Born March 10, 1916 in Youngstown, Ohio, he was the son of Irish immigrants, James F. Quigley and Elizabeth A. Decourcey Quigley. Ken attended Cleveland's Shaw High School and Ohio State University on a tennis scholarship and was a freshman cheerleader. A veteran of WW II, Ken was a Lieutenant in the Army Air Corps, serving as a Bugler, WAAC recruiter and Public Relations Officer. A life-long athlete, Ken was a State and Interstate Badminton champion and the #3 ranked amateur in the U.S. for five years. A professional badminton player, he toured the country with Sportsmen shows for two years performing trick shots before several million people each year. Ken moved his family to Southern California in 1959 when he became a Regional Manager for Gates Rubber Company. He later owned a retail tire store and two wholesale tire businesses. After selling these businesses, he went into real estate. Never fully retiring, he worked in his later years for several golf courses and ran Quigs Co. selling golf clothing and "experienced" golf balls locally and through the internet. He was a long time resident of Hemet West in Hemet, CA. Ken is survived by his wife Carroll; children, Colleen King, Kenneth Quigley, Anna Quigley, and John Quigley; 9 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and 4 great-great-grandchildren. A Funeral Mass will be held on Wed, Jan. 16, 2013 at 10am at Our Lady of the Valley Catholic Church, Hemet, CA, with a graveside service to follow at 12:30 p.m. at Riverside National Cemetery.
