Larry Swarrett Obituary
LARRY DWAIN SWARRETT 7/11/1941 - 9/3/2013 Age 72 passed away peacefully and with dignity after enduring a massive stroke. Please know that he was surrounded by his loving wife, Sylvia and his "adopted family." Larry was born and raised in Riverside. He graduated Poly High School, Class of 1959 and later received an AA from Riverside Community College. He joined the U.S. Navy and served 2 yrs. in the Philippines as an Aviation Electrician AE2. He was honorably discharged after 4 yrs. and was given the Good Conduct Award. His continued employment consisted of various jobs leading up to being a salesman in the Distillery Industry receiving awards such as the "Outstanding Salesman of the Year Award". He then went to work for Manhiem Auto Auction which afforded him to be around cars of all types which was his passion. While at Manheim he met and became friends with many co-workers which he often spoke highly of. He retired three weeks prior to his death. He also recently joined the American Legion Post 79 and quickly made many more friends. Larry's passion was, indeed, Classic Cars. He had previously restored many Hot Rods and most recently restored his treasured 1956 Chevy Bel Air. His favorite pastime was attending car shows and if not physically going to Drag Races, then watching them on television, his favorite being the John Force Racing Team and John Force in particular. Larry is survived by his wife of 22 years, Sylvia; stepdaughters Debbie Wilson (Randy) of Riverside, CA, Rhonda Leavitt (Mike) of Colton, CA., Cyndi Clayton of Alta Loma, CA and Tami Kimble (Ben) of Riverside, CA. He also leaves behind 10 step grandchildren and 12 step great grandchildren along with his much loved pets, Amy, Katie, Daisy and Bella. Larry also leaves behind many close and dear friends who join us in mourning our loss. He was preceded in death by his parents and beloved grandmother and son, Brent. Services will be held at Arlington Mortuary, 9645 Magnolia Ave., Riverside, CA at 10:00am, Thursday, September 12th immediately followed by a caravan of hot rods following his remains in his "56" to the Riverside National Cemetery for interment. A Celebration of Life to follow at his home. All hot rods or classic cars welcome. In lieu of flowers, donations made to an animal shelter in his name would be a great way to remember him.
