LAVERN ALLEN CHAPMAN (SPUD) 11-12-31 - 09-20-15 Peacefully called home by our Lord with his family beside him at Riverside Community Hospital. Born Nov. 12, 1931 in Riverside, CA to the late Marvel L. and Millicent F. (Harris) Chapman. Predeceased by his sister Nadine (Chapman) Weigate; stepmother Peggy Chapman; great granddaughter Josaphene Rhodes; uncle and aunt Mike and Vera (Chapman) Harlow. Survived by loving wife of 64 years, Jonnie L. Chapman (Haffter); two sons, Dennis (Victoria), Ronald (Evelyn); one daughter Catherine E. Fortin (Marcel); 7 grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren; many life long friends from Poly High School, Riverside Fire Dept. and Police Dept. Joined U.S. Navy in 1950 (Sea Bee's) working in the Philippines building landing strips, then driving trucks between Nevada and San Francisco Bay. After discharge he came home to Riverside and joined Riverside Fire Dept. Retired in 1985 as Battalion Chief. In retirement they traveled to most states in their motor home. They also traveled with friends to China, Europe, and South America. He enjoyed many years living in Newport Beach, building sand castles Labor Day weekend, having coffee with the boys, and teaching grandchildren to fish. He moved back to Riverside in 2001. A memorial service will be held at the Grove in Riverside Oct. 26, 9:00am followed by interment at Riverside National Cemetery at 11:30am. We are thankful for the time he shared with us.
