Lee Myron Wearda Obituary
LEE MYRON WEARDA, age 85,-passed away at Riverside County Regional Medical Center on July 11, 2014. The second son of Fannie and George (Popo) Wearda, born January 29, 1929 in Champaign, IL. He moved to California, with his brother and mother, when he and his brother were in their teens. He attended Manual Arts High School in Los Angeles. He lettered in all sports except football. He was a consummate athlete all his life. He received a Bachelor Degree in Engineering, as well as an MBA from USC. A continual supporter of his alma mater all knew not to call during football season. He served in the United States Air Force after college. After the service he went into the aero space industry, first with Hughes Aircraft, then Northrop Grumman, from which he retired after 30 years of service. While there he worked on many projects, including the last, the B-2 Stealth bomber. Lee moved to Orange County to raise his family, while he commuted to LA, San Diego and other assignments, wanting his family to have an uninterrupted home life. In 1992 upon retirement he moved to Sun Lakes Country Club with his present wife and partner, Carol. He fell in love with the golf course and for many years you could find him 3 days a week on the links. He would return home to say, "Another hard day of golf!". He would go on to be involved in bridge, dominos and an occasional over night golf trip. Lee and Carol traveled extensively with close friends of 50 years. Even taking a 2nd trip to Alaska with long time Foreign Dinner group, that had met and cooked together for some 50 years. Lee was a quiet, unassuming man with a drool sense of humor that all who knew him appreciated. He enjoyed his special friends here in Sun Lakes and they were many. Until his health prevented him from doing the things he enjoyed his last few years, he still found enjoyment doing dinner and a movie with Carol and visits with family and friends. Lee is survived by his wife, Carol; his daughter Sherrie Bonucci of Duarte; granddaughter Kelley Noel and grandson, William Lino Bonucci. Also, his son, Rick Wearda (Lisa) and grandson Taylor Lee; granddaughters Tess Alexandra and Grace Katherine Wearda all of San Luis Obispo, CA. Also leaving behind his older brother and best friend, Dean Tess (Marilyn) Wearda of Dana Point, CA. Also, to his credit and stamina, he spent the last 28 years being Papa Lee to Carols' children. They are Kevin (TerriGail) Baitx, Brian (Denise) Baitx, Chris (Lori) Baitx, Kelle (Delia) Baitx and Nicole (Mike) Kennedy and last, but not least, Gabby (Kade) Kudron. A total of 20 plus grandchildren and a dozen or so great grandchildren who never missed giving him his hug while in "his chair". He is leaving behind fond memories of this quiet giant of a man. Two of Lee's proudest moments were when his son became a USC grad in Dentistry and his daughter became an RN. The family will be holding a "Life Well Spent", on Saturday, August 16th, at 11:30 a.m. at Sun Lakes Country Club, Banning, in the Main Clubhouse.
