LESTER K. GROVIER Husband, Father, Veteran February 23, 1924 November 27, 2014 Riverside, California After a protracted battle with cancer, Lester K. Grovier died peacefully at his Riverside, CA home on Thursday, November 27, 2014. Les would have been 91 years old in February. Les leaves behind his sisters Harriet Harris, of Riverside; and June Danzyk, of Riverside; and his son Halsted Davis of Medford, OR. Les is also survived by his daughters: Lana Henifin of Riverside, and Darrian Lee of Carpinteria, CA; and by his eight grandchildren: Allison Davis, Sheila Mangum, Steven Henifin, Chris Baumstark, Scott Lee, Brandon Grovier, Justin Davis, and Geoff Davis; and by his three great grandchildren: Ryan Davis, Dashiel Mangum and Lilly Baumstark. Les was preceded in death by his beloved wife Dorothe Elizabeth Grovier, by his son and daughter, David Grovier and Marta Baumstark; and by his sisters: Winifred Van Beek, Ruth Totten, Doris Spencer, Blanche Irwin, Carol Correll; and by his parents Cleo and Ralph Grovier. Born in Iowa on February 23, 1924, Les enlisted in the Navy on December 7, 1941. He was assigned to the battleship Tennessee while it was still being repaired and refitted following Pearl Harbor, and served as a Gunner's Mate throughout WWII. After the war, Les left the Navy and enlisted in the Air Force. Following his Air Force enlistment, Les went to work for Santa Fe Railway as a Brakeman; eventually retiring from Santa Fe as an Engineer in 1985. In 1955, Les met his soul mate, Dorothe, while she was working in the doughnut shop she owned in Los Angeles. They married on December 14, of that year; and shortly after moved from Los Angeles to Riverside, where the couple raised their family. Les was a loyal and devoted family man, with a not so secret love of his wife Dorothe, his cats, and Keno. He and Dorothe made frequent trips to the Indian casinos, and to Las Vegas. When diagnosed with bone cancer in early 2014, he remained dedicated to fighting the illness and leading a normal life. He continued to be brave and iron-willed, even throughout his final months. A Memorial Service, conducted by Pastor John Reid, is scheduled for 12:30 pm, Wednesday, December 10 at Acheson and Graham Garden of Prayer Chapel, 7944 Magnolia Ave, Riverside, CA 92504; 951-688-1221. Graveside services will follow at 2:00 pm, Olivewood Cemetery, 3300 Central Avenue in Riverside. Per Les' request, no reception is planned.
