Lloyd Kenneth McWhirter Jr. Obituary
LLOYD KENNETH MCWHIRTER, JR. Age 76, passed away at home from cancer on May 6, 2016. He was born in Apollo, PA on 2/4/1940 and had lived in Moreno Valley, CA for 28 years, previously in Torrance, CA for 15 years. He served in the Air Force from 1958-1961. He was a Police Officer for 8 years in Redondo Beach, CA. He had worked at Mills Iron Works, in Gardena, CA for 10 years. He went blind in 1991 and attended braille classes. He was a member of the Braille Institute in Rancho Mirage, CA, Braille Club of Riverside, CA, where he served on the Board of Directors, Toastmasters Club 130 of Riverside where he was President twice and he was C2 area Governor, District 12 and Hadley School of Computers. Lloyd is survived by his wife of 45 years, Gaylene McWhirter; daughters Renee Thayer (Ron) of Gardnerville, NV and Michelle Johnson (Jake) of Prescott, AZ; sister Cindy Padilla of Redding, CA; brother Sydney McWhirter of Maui, HI; 8 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents Lloyd and Helen McWhirter; sister Bonnie Hakes of Torrance, CA; and brothers David McWhirter and Richard McWhirter. Graveside Service will be at 10:30am on June 2, 2016 at Riverside National Cemetery followed by a Celebration of Life at 12:00pm. Contact the family for details.
