Loren Mitchell Obituary
LOREN MITCHELL Loren went to be with Jesus on August 3, 2014. Loren was born in Los Angeles on December 19, 1930 to L.L and Lucille Mitchell. Loren graduated from Franklin High School in Los Angeles where he was named to the "All Northern League" baseball team in 1949. After high school Loren joined the Air Force and served his country proudly during the Korean War. After his service to his country Loren went on to serve his community by joining the Riverside Police Department in 1956 and was the first K-9 handler for RPD. "Officer Mitchell" and his canine partner, "PAL," worked the streets together until 1960 when funding shortfalls forced the department to abandon the program. After his distinguished service with the Riverside Police Department Loren went on to work for the Riverside County DA's office until he retired in 1979 as Senior DA Investigator. In "retirement" Loren expanded his Mitchell Piano company into one of the most successful, longest lasting piano retail stores in the Riverside area. Loren also served his community by sitting on the board of directors of the Santa Ana River Water company in Mira Loma for over 31 years. Besides being a distinguished public servant and exceptional "Piano King" Loren was a dedicated husband, father and grandfather. Loren is survived by his wife Elois; his sons Brian and Thomas; his daughters Cindy, Lori and Debbie; daughters-in-law Betty and Kathy and his grandchildren Andrew, Daniel, Seth, Markie, David, and Lindsey. Loren and Elois enjoyed traveling all over the country in their GMC motor home. When not out touring the countryside Loren would enjoy restoring classic cars, going to RCC football and baseball games, and attending Monday morning breakfast meetings with his fellow retired law enforcement buddies as well as attending Grace Community Church on Sundays. A celebration of his life will be held this Friday, August 8th at 10am at Harvest Christian Fellowship. In lieu of flowers Loren's request would be to consider donating to the K-9 unit of the Riverside Police Department.
