Louis Richard Wilhelm Obituary
LOUIS RICHARD WILHELM passed away September 15, 2016 at his home is San Juan Capistrano, CA. Louis was born December 28, 1929 to Louis and Clara Wilhelm in a small farmhouse in Hemet, California. Known to his friends as "Dick" he spent his early years farming with his father and working as a master mechanic in town until he entered the Navy at age 18. After the Navy, and while working as a laborer on the docks in Los Angeles, he met and married the love of his life Dawne Wilhelm. The couple returned to Hemet and Dick continued to farm several thousand acres until he and his wife eventually relocated with their new son to Torrance, CA. In the early years Dick and Dawne started several successful janitorial businesses. After their second child was born they bought their first home and relocated to Redondo Beach. In the 1970's Dick Joined the Hermosa Beach Police Department reserve program and remained there for 13 years. In 1989 the couple retired and relocated one last time to San Juan Capistrano. Dick and Dawne Wilhelm were known to their friends and neighbors as an amazing couple with an insatiable appetite for adventure and a love of intellectual pursuit. His wife Dawne was born legally blind and as testimony to his character, Dick spent his life determined that she would never miss anything because of her disability. Together they ran 2 businesses, were a part of the famed deep sea diving team of Mel Fisher, were both licensed Ham radio operators, operated a small exotic animal quarantine for Los Angeles Zoo, were involved in Ham clubs, computer club, scouting, and civic issues and returned to Hemet for many years to help with the Ramona Pageant. After 64 wonderful years, Dick lost his beloved wife in June 2015 and in his last days as might be expected, he said "God granted me everything in life I ever asked for, I couldn't have possibly imagined anything more, but now I'd like to be with Dawne". Louis "Dick" Wilhelm is survived by his 2 children: his son, Wayne Wilhelm; daughter, Tami Wilhelm; grandchildren: Sharmel Butler Wilkey, Damian Silva, Shannen Burton, Megan Torres; great grandchildren: Gavin and Addison Wilkey, Jessie Gregge, Jeff Gregge, Adrianna Liable, Miley Paugh, Logan Burton, Madalyn Torres, Parker Torres.
