Lowell Johnson Obituary
LOWELL JOHNSON, age 88, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, January 5, 2016. Lowell was a man of faith who believed that his purpose in life was to serve God and others. He was known for his boundless energy, compassion for the less fortunate, love for his family, and getting jobs done efficiently. Lowell was a dedicated member of First Baptist Church in Corona for over 45 years where he sang in the choir, served as a volunteer janitor and deacon and helped his wife Mary Lou teach the Turtles Sunday School class. Lowell was a longtime volunteer for God's Kitchen where he made regular "bread runs" throughout the city to gather food. He was a regular fixture at the counter at his favorite restaurant Hunnys where he has his own signature breakfast. Lowell was an athlete all of his life, taking part in high school sports, college level track, slow-pitch softball and also excelled at clown stunt diving. Lowell spent many years coaching his girls in softball and soccer and held numerous leadership positions in the Corona Girls' Softball Association. He was a CIF referee and umpire well into his late seventies and could still stand on his head at age 80. Lowell is survived by his four daughters Leslie Wahlstrom, Kris Bolman, Sally Lachman, and Amy Santia, Juan Pablo Nevarez; 18 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren and a host of friends who will miss him dearly. A memorial service will be held at First Baptist Church of Corona at 11:00 am on Saturday, January 9th. In lieu of flowers please consider a donation to two organizations Lowell was passionate about: Peppermint Ridge and The First Baptist Church of Corona.
