LUTHER BERNARD (JOHNNY) JOHNSTON Age 92, passed away peacefully on August 12, 2013 at The Yorkshire House in Hemet, California. Johnny was born in McLoud, Pottawatomie, Oklahoma on April 29, 1921 to Luther Jack Johnston and to his wife, Goldie Sue Garrett. He is survived by two daughters, Shirley Johnston and Lin Lawrence and her husband Mike; one granddaughter, Terri Steeber and husband Shawn; two great-grandsons, Michael Steeber and wife Maddy; and Mark Steeber; one grandson, Scott Llamas and wife Kate. His wife of 69 years, D. Rozanne Johnston, passed away in 2009. Johnny lived in Hemet for 33 years. He served in the U.S. Army 7th Infantry Division during WWII and transferred to the U.S. Army Air Corp which became today's U.S. Air Force and served for 23 years. He was active in the Korean War Conflict and also the Vietnam War. He was an aircraft maintenance mechanic and his two favorite fighters were the Republic F-105 Thunderchief and the McDonnell-Douglas Phantom F4C. One of the highlights of his Air Force career was when his pilot, who was a Top Gun graduate, took him for a ride of his life in a Phantom F4C. Johnny loved to travel with Rozanne in their motorhome and also on their Honda Gold Wing. He was an active member of the Fruitvale Ward, Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Hemet. The celebration of Johnny's life will be Thursday, August 22nd at 10:30am at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints at the Hemet Stake Center, 425 N. Kirby in Hemet. Interment will be at the Riverside National Cemetery, Staging Area 8 at 1:31 pm with Full Military Honors. The Inland Memorial Harford Chapel at 120 N. Buena Vista Street, Hemet, CA is handling the funeral arrangements. In lieu of flowers Johnny requested donations be made to the Disabled American Veterans, P.O. Box 14301, Cincinnati, Ohio 45290-0301 in the name of Luther B. Johnson.
