Lynn Bratton Obituary

LYNN MCFARLAND BRATTON July 29, 1936 ~ July 2, 2014 Lynn McFarland Bratton, passed away at her home at the age of 77. She is survived by her sons Bill, Jim and Chris. She is also survived by her grandsons Richard, Alexander, Connor and Zachary. Lynn grew up in Bronxville, New York. She attended the University of Alabama where she earned her Bachelor of Arts Degree. In 1965, she made Riverside her permanent home. She was active in the community and a member of the Jr. League of Riverside. As a golfer, she proudly received her breaking 100 pin from Canyon Crest Country Club. In her later years, Lynn resided in Braemar allowing her to be close to Mount Rubidoux which she truly loved. Over the years, Lynn enjoyed collecting antiques, movies with friends, and lunch bunch with her crew. Lynn was especially fond of her Scottish roots and upon extensive family tree research, it was discovered that she was a direct bloodline descendent of Sir Walter Scott, author of Ivanhoe, Rob Roy, The Lady Of The Lake and a body of classic, groundbreaking works that defined 19th century Scottish culture and profoundly affected European literature as a whole. Lynn felt a deep, lifelong connection with New Orleans culture, food and music, especially the city's rich Dixieland tradition and would regularly attend Dixieland Jazz Band festivals in Palm Springs, Los Angeles, Riverside and San Diego. The Festivals were her passion and she was always warmly greeted there as a familiar face. One of her most favorite memories was Disco dancing in London, England with her best friend Jo Hall in the late 1970's and on that trip, finally making her pilgrimage to Scotland to see the statue of Sir Walter Scott. Her resting place will be with her parents and extended family in Mobile, Alabama. Services will be private.
