Magdalena Bernath Obituary
MAGDALENA BERNATH, 91, slipped away in her sleep to be with the Lord, on June 1, 2015. She was surrounded by her family from as far as Louisiana. Magdalena was born on September 23, 1923 in Budapest, Hungary to Aurel and Magdolna de Galateo. After WWII ended, the family had to leave Hungary and after a few years' stay in Germany they settled in the USA. In Germany, Magdalena met and married Paul Bernath. In 1962 they settled in California and since 1964 Riverside was their home. Her interests included family, sewing and reading. She was proud and passionate about her Hungarian heritage, but also loved her America. She was a member of the Southern California American- Hungarian Club in Bloomington, CA and loved to spend time at the Janet Goeske Center. Magdalena is survived by her son Kornel and his wife Elizabeth Bernath; her three grandchildren, Kazmer and his spouse Jean; Kitty Bourgeois, Thomas and his spouse Arlene Bernath; 10 great grandchildren, Adam and spouse Evelyn, Tami and spouse Robert, Brianna, Katie, Zak, Lauren, Jimmy, Carolyn, Jenna and Matthew, and 7 great-great grandchildren, Bobby, Tayte, Ian, Nadia, Nathan, Marcus, and Vivian. She loved them all and looked forward to their visits. Memorial service will be held at the chapel of Preston and Simons Mortuary, 3358 Mission Inn Avenue, Riverside, CA 92501. She will be laid to rest at Evergreen Memorial Park, 4414 14th St., Riverside, CA following the service.
