Margaret Frances Nord Obituary
MARGARET FRANCES NORD, of Hemet, CA, danced her way to heaven to music sung to her by her best friend Bob on May 5, 2016 at the age of 85, surrounded by all of her children. She was born March 9, 1931 in Benton Harbor, MI to William and Margaret Connell. After high school, she moved to Minneapolis, Minnesota to further her education, where she met and married David Nord, and raised 5 children. In 1966, the family moved to La Canada, California, until David's retirement when they moved to Hemet in 1988. Prior to retirement, Margaret owned and operated her own custom lighting store in Whittier, CA. After retirement, she volunteered her time assisting teachers in elementary schools in the valley with a reading program to help young students improve their reading skills, and rushed to the aid of any of her friends or neighbors who needed help. She also volunteered at the Hemet Valley hospital. When not doing volunteer work, she enjoyed traveling with her husband in their fifth wheel. In her spare time, Margaret was always active, participating in line dancing and ballroom dancing and working out at the gym 3 days a week with weights or aerobic exercise. She was fondly referred to as "the gym rat". She also was an active member of the Hemet Elks Lodge, and enjoyed her duties as greeter and working on bingo night. Margaret was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years David (2001), her parents and 7 brothers and sisters. She is survived by 3 brothers, John Connell of South Bend, IN, William (Jean) Connell of Edwardsburg, MI, Phillip Connell (Lynda) of Coloma, MI; one sister, Rosemarie Hazelton (John) of Ventura, CA; sons Roger (Cheryl) of Burnsville, MN, David (Kelley) of Azusa, CA; daughters Deborah Nord Capen (Michael) of Lake Havasu City, AZ, Gail Cameron of Sagle, ID and Mariellen (Greg) High of Oceanside, CA; her best friend Bob Permann of Hemet, CA; 8 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren, all of whom she loved and cherished. She also had many nieces and nephews who she kept in close contact with. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to The Transverse Myelitis Association, 1787 Sutter Parkway, Powell, OH 43065. She supported her daughter's work with this nonprofit organization to raise awareness of rare disorders of the spinal cord, and funds for research and fellowships for neurologists who will specialize in treating these disorders. Donations can also be made electronically through the website: myelitis.org/donate. Memorial arrangements are to be made at a later date, with burial at Fort Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis/St. Paul, MN. Lakeview Funeral Home in Sandpoint, Idaho is handling the arrangements. Please visit Margaret's online memorial at www.lakeviewfuneral.com and sign her guest book.
