February 2, 1925 - April 25, 2017
Margaret Viafora passed away on April 25, 2017. She was born in Hyde Park, Massachusetts on February 2, 1925 to John and Mary McDonald. During her senior year at Hyde Park High Peg interned at M.I.T. in support of the war effort where she met her future husband, Ralph A. Viafora, Jr. After Ralph returned from serving in the Army Air Corp during WWII they married in Boston on October 19, 1946.
Ralph decided to pursue a career as an Air Force pilot during the Korean Conflict. After many assignments all over the country they eventually settled in California. Peg was a homemaker and loving mother to five children, one of whom was disabled. She cared for him devotedly throughout his life. She was an avid reader, loved knitting, marching bands, and completing crossword puzzles. She found time to volunteer at her church and in elementary school classrooms. Peg, aka Nana, doted on her twelve grandchildren and never missed a family event involving them. She loved unconditionally, and fully espoused Pope Francis's belief, "Who am I to judge?"
Peg is survived by a large and loving family including children Paul (Joanne), Anne (Steve), John (Mary), and Mary (Tim), her brother Francis McDonald; by grand- children David, Nicolas, and Briana Viafora, Kristina Viafora, Emily Blevins, Marguerite (Christopher) Moreau- Redman, Matthew (Morgan) Moreau, Dominique (Alejandro) Moreau-Rosales, Mollie (Nicholas) Blevins- Matthews, Leslie (Alex) Kelly, Jason (Diana) Viafora, Jessica (Brandon) Buffalo; three great-grandchildren Gavin Moreau, Braylen Buffalo, Casper Redman, and many beloved nieces and nephews. Peg was predeceased by her husband, Ralph, her parents and stepmother Helen, her loving son Mark, and sibling John McDonald.
The Mass of Resurrection for Peg will be celebrated privately. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Peg's memory to Alzheimer's Greater Los Angeles, 4221 Wilshire Blvd, Suite 440, Los Angeles, CA 90010 or www.alzgla.org/donate
