Marge A. Mathews Obituary
Margery A. Mathews, 83, passed away peacefully at her home on October 21, 2017. She was born in Hemet, CA on September 23, 1934. She was a 1952 graduate of Hemet High School where she was a member of the yearbook staff and Glee Club and was involved in community theatre.
After graduating, she lived in Riverside where she worked for Pacific Telephone as a long distance operator. Two years later, she returned to Hemet and met Russ, who would become her husband of 53 years. Soon after their marriage came a daughter, Lisa, followed by a son, Kirk.
When her children entered grammar school, Marge began her 37-year career at Ramona Elementary School. Starting as a playground supervisor, she then moved into a rewarding position as an instructional aid. During those years, she touched the lives of her students, many of whom kept in touch over the years.
Marge was an exceptional mother who was proud and supportive of both her children. She volunteered as cookie manager with Lisa's Girl Scout troop, then later welcomed the many HHS theater students who gathered at the house to write skits and rehearse.
Marge was a wonderful "sports mom" to Kirk, attending all of his games and diligently laundering his uniforms. When Russ coached a team for Hemet Youth Baseball, she often helped start batting practice and shuttle players home. She spent several years working the Hemet Youth Baseball concession stand and helping with fundraisers.
The key to Marge's youthful appearance and attitude was her ability to keep current with popular music, movies and TV shows. She will be remembered for her thoughtfulness to others, her kind and friendly personality, and, above all, her beautiful smile.
Marge was pre-deceased by her husband, Russ, in 2008. She is survived by her daughter, Lisa Blaisdale of Vista; son, Kirk, and his wife, Marcia; granddaughter, Jill, and her husband, Casey; grandson, Craig; and sister, Kathleen McKinney, all from Hemet. She is also survived by brother-in-law, Jim Mathews; and sister-in-law, KayLynn Quast, and her husband, Tom.
Per her request, no services will be held. However, the family will gather with friends to share memories of Marge at El Patron on Saturday, November 11th from 4 - 6:00pm.
