Marguerite (Maggie) Pim Obituary
MARGUERITE (MAGGIE) PIM passed away peacefully in Riverside, CA on May 1, 2016 at the age of 80. Maggie's parents, Ira and Lulu Gerhart, moved their young family to Riverside when Maggie was just three, settling in the Woodcrest area. At that time there were more tumbleweeds than neighbors, so the family ate the bountiful vegetables from their garden and drank water from a well. Maggie attended Valley Center and Val Verde Elementary schools with her brother and sister and was later involved in school government at Poly HS where she graduated in 1953. When she was 20, Maggie met a handsome Navy man named Donald Ray Pim. In 1957 they were married in the original chapel of Magnolia Presbyterian Church where Maggie had been a member since 1954. Over the course of her 60-year membership she made many lifelong friends, served the church as Treasurer, Sunday School Teacher and devoted endless hours of service to her fellow members. In 1958, Maggie and Don started a family, which grew to three sons and a daughter. They lived an active and vibrant home life, often hosting parties made up of family and their numerous friends. The family traveled all over the western United States, but to no place more special than Twin Lakes, their annual summer retreat in the High Sierras. Like her parents before her, Maggie loved the great outdoors, a love that she first passed along to her children and now to her grandchildren. She and Don were married more than 50 years when he passed away in 2008, after a long career as a Lineman for the City of Riverside. After Maggie raised her children, she went to work at Riverside Unified School District as a Secretary. She retired after 15 years. She was not afraid of hard work. As anyone who knew Maggie will attest, she was gracious and kind and always lent an ear to the troubles of others. Having recently and proudly celebrated her 80th birthday, she will always be a cornerstone of the family and held many titles, including Mother, Grandmother, Aunt, Sister, Mother-in-Law, Cousin, Friend and many more. Maggie is survived by her children and grandchildren; son Matt and wife Sandy and their children Brandi and Matthew; son Larry and wife Alma Linda and their son Donovan; son Brian; daughter Julie and son-in-law Jim and their children Megan, Rachel and James. Her sister Lila Odell called Maggie her best friend for over 80 years, and her brother Raul "Skip" and wife Romy of Arizona, and their children, their spouses and grandchildren will also dearly miss her. Maggie saw enormous change in the world, but through it all, she embraced these changes and looked upon every challenge as an opportunity. With her Lord and her family behind her, she knew that she could accomplish anything, and it is this remarkable and upbeat spirit that we will miss the most. The family would like to thank the devoted and loving members of Kaiser Hospice Care and Sunrise Canyon Crest Assisted Living. They became an extended part of Maggie's family and we appreciate the comfort and peace they provided. Memorial donations may be made to the Pim Family Endowment Fund at Magnolia Presbyterian Church. Services will be held Friday, May 6, 2016, 11:00AM at Magnolia Presbyterian Church, 7200 Magnolia Ave., Riverside, Ca 92504.
