MARIAN CECELIA KOSTELNY Age 96, passed away on March 10, 2015, in Menifee, CA. She was born August 15, 1918, to Emma and Albert Love in Los Angeles, CA. The family lived in Chicago, IL, where she grew up with her brother Richard and sister Florence, it is also where she met her life-long friend of 92 years Alice (Anderson) Waitek. She attended Funston grade school in Chicago, St. Mary's School for girls in Galesburg, IL. and Kelvin Park High School in Chicago. Marian married Edward Kostelny on June 8, 1940 in Chicago where they started their family and in 1948 moved to Venitian Village, Lake Villa, IL. where they opened the "Village Store" and made many friends. In 1952 the store was sold but the family remained in the Village where Marian became involved in the community when she served as Vice-President of the Venetian Village Civic Association Women's Auxiliary, Brownie Leader, and volunteer beach patrol at Miltmore Lake. She worked as a Printer for Navy Publications & Printing at Great Lakes Naval Training Center f or 14 years. Marian loved to entertain, sing, dance (the Charleston being her specialty,) and play the ukulele. Swimming and golfing were two or her favorite athletic activities. They moved to Waukegan, IL. in 1966, where she was active in the ladies golf club at Bonnie Brook Golf Course and volunteered at the Great Lakes Naval Hospital. In 1974 they moved to Irvine, CA. to be close to their children & grandchildren. She delivered Meals on Wheels in the Costa Mesa-Newport Beach area, joined the Town & Gown ladies golf club, was active in the Jack LaLanne Ladies swimming group, and found a new love in water painting. She was really proud of her many paintings, some of which hang in the homes of relatives & friends to this day. In 1988 they moved to the private community of Casa Murrieta Estates in Sun City, CA, where she became the community's water aerobics instructor and recreation coordinator, two positions she truly loved, and also volunteered at the Menifee Valley Hospital Thrift Shop. In 2010 Marian moved to assisted living at Cherry Hills Club in Sun City, (Menifee), CA. where she enjoyed many social activities and developed many new relationships. Family meant the world to Marian and loved it when one would come to visit. Marian was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Edward Kostelny; brothers Arnold and Richard; sisters Mildred and Florence. She is survived by her two children Kathy Reed (Newport Beach, CA); Randy Kostelny and wife Sandy (La Quinta, CA); grandchildren Andrew Reed and Brooke (John) Dmytriw; and two great-grandchildren Conner Dmytriw and Kailani Reed. Services will be held on Sunday March 22, 2015 at 1:30 PM at St. Stephen's Episcopal Church, 26704 Murrieta Rd. (Sun City) Menifee, Ca.
