Marjorie F. Brahams Obituary
August 22, 1921 – May 28, 2017
Betty was born in Escanaba, Michigan to Joseph Henry DeMontigny and Elise Cyr DeMontigny. The family moved to Beloit, Wisc. when Betty was 3. She attended Brother Dutton School from elementary through high school and then went to study at Northwestern University.
Betty worked for Pure Oil Co. in Chicago before marrying Frederick R. Jones, a pilot in the Army Air Force and later the USAF, in 1945. They had three daughters: Cheryl Lynn, Stevyn (Stevie) Lee (predeceased her) and Debra Ann. The family lived in many locations in the USA and overseas. Betty was very active in base activities wherever they were stationed.
After Fred's death, Betty married Robert D. Strong in 1971, who worked with Tilden-Coil Construction. Betty worked as the company comptroller and was involved with Women in Construction. After Bob's death, Betty continued to work for the company. She also became active in the Make A Wish Foundation, interviewing and granting wishes.
During her retirement Betty was an active gardener, bridge player, hiker and golfer. During this time she was introduced to Childhelp, an organization for abused children. She worked with them for 15 years.
She eventually married Webster William Brahams Jr. in 1997. Betty and Bill enjoyed square dancing, golf and travel. After Bill's passing, Betty moved to Las Vegas to live with her daughter Cheryl.
Her daughters, Cheryl Midby and Debra Pfiffner and their spouses survive Betty. She has six grandchildren: C. Michael Heers, Jesse R. Heers (Vida), & Crystal Midby and Megan C. Pfiffner (Jason Vincent), Katherine C. and Morgan M. Pfiffner. She has 9 great grandchildren.
A gravesite service will be held at the Riverside National Cemetery on Oct. 14th at 9:15am. The family asks that in lieu of flowers donations be made to Childhelp of Riverside.
