Marvin McClay Obituary
MARVIN MCCLAY, 82, passed away April 1, 2014. He was born May 18, 1931 in San Pedro, CA to Ronald and Vivian McClay. Marvin grew up in Lake Elsinore and after high school, attended UCLA where he graduated with a degree in Engineering. In 1968 he earned his MBA from Cal State Fullerton and his PhD in Finance from the University of Oregon in 1972. Marvin initially worked in the electronic instruments industry and then transitioned into finance, retiring from his own business in pension management in 1993. Marvin is survived by Shirley who he married in 1986. Together they traveled the world extensively and enjoyed spending time with their extended families from previous marriages. Marvin was an active member of the Murrieta United Methodist Church and the Lions Club. He rarely missed his Tuesday poker game with his buddies or Friday breakfast with friends from church. He and Shirley loved entertaining in their home and hosted numerous parties and fund-raising events over the years. Marvin is also survived by his sister, Sharon Schamp and brother, Mike McClay (wife Kathy); three daughters with his first wife, Pauline: Marline Pallais (husband Scott); Gayle Harbour and Patrice Hong (husband Paul); stepson Brian Atwater (wife Cheryl) and stepdaughter Karen Burcher (husband Nick); grandchildren include Vladimir and Mariya Pallais, Gavin and Dayna Harbour, Stella and Max Hong, Laura Atwater, Rebecca, Madelyne and Charlotte Burcher. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that donations be sent to the Murrieta United Methodist Church. A memorial service will be held Monday morning at the Murrieta United Methodist Church. For by grace you have been saved through faith; and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God. Ephesians 2:8
