MARY ANN WHITENER entered eternal life Monday, May 4, 2015 in Hemet, California. Mary Ann was an only child to parents Clarence and Ruth Wilber. She was a lifetime Californian raised in Highland Park where she attended Yorkdale Elementary School and graduated Franklin High School class of 1946. Mary Ann first met the love of her life, James S. Whitener, "Jim", in 1943 at the age of 14 in Caruthers, California where he was raised. They stayed in touch as Jim went off to college at Fresno State a year before he joined the US Air Corps, serving as a B29 navigator in World War II. Mary Ann and Jim married July 13, 1947 at the Highland Park Christian Church. After Jim completed his service, he attended and graduated Cal Berkeley after which they settled in Fontana, California where he managed a poultry ranch. Jim and Mary Ann moved to Hemet in 1957 after purchasing property in Valle Vista for their own ranch. Mary Ann saw her most important job as wife and mother raising her three sons who all attended Little Lake Elementary and Hemet Jr and Sr. High Schools in Hemet. Mary Ann was a member and President of the Jaycee-ettes and was an active member of the PTA and Assistance League. She was president of Beta Sigma Phi sorority in 1982-83. Mary Ann was also a long-time member of the Order of the Eastern Star, joining in 1957 and served as Worthy Matron in 1967, 1969, and 1993. Mary Ann was appointed as the Grand Representative of Washington in California in 1972-73 and Deputy Grand Matron in 1981. She was also appointed as Grand Martha of the Grand Chapter of the Order of Eastern Star in 1988. Mary Ann loved to travel, visiting many wonderful places throughout the world. People have always been drawn to her and she was often a stand-in mom for her son's friends, an exchange student (Ahmet Ulker) from Turkey, and many of her nieces and nephews. Mary Ann's Life will be celebrated at 11AM, Wednesday, May 13, 2015 at the Hemet Valley Mortuary in Hemet, California. Private family inurnment will follow.
