Mary Jane Sheline Obituary
MARY JANE SHELINE July 6, 1924 - November 4, 2013 Our beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and friend Mary Jane Sheline passed away peacefully at her residence at the Raincross Retirement Center in Riverside at the age of 89. Mary Jane was born in Kalamazoo, Michigan to Glen and Lizzie Smith. She lived there with her family, including older brother Mason, until she was married. Her favorite childhood memories included going to the movies, swimming and ice skating with her friends, attending Chicago Cubs baseball games, fishing with her brother, listening to music, and riding horses. Mary Jane attended Vicksburg High School where she played the clarinet in the school's marching band. At this time she met Bob Sheline, the band's snare drum player, whom she would later marry. While in high school she also participated in student government, soft ball, and tennis. After graduation Mary Jane attended and graduated from the Parson's Business School in Kalamazoo. She went on to work for the First National Bank in the trust department for two years. During this time she took up golf, which would become one of her favorite passions in life. In April 1946, when Bob Sheline returned from WWII, they were married. They moved to Indian Lake, near Vicksburg, and had three children, Michael, Terry, and Jamie before they moved to Garden Grove, Ca in 1955. She then gave birth to her fourth child, Patrick. Mary devoted most of her time to her family. She became active in the PTA, the Boys Club, Little League, Cub Scouts, and Brownies. She attended all of the children's sporting events, planned family camping trips, and provided a loving anchor at home for her husband and children. As the Sheline children left home Mary Jane and Bob pursued their hobbies, including playing golf, bridge, and traveling. They moved from Garden Grove to eventually retire in Menifee. While living in Menifee, Mary Jane and Bob enjoyed spending time on the golf course where they were active members of the Menifee Lakes Golf Club. A testimony to Mary's skills as a golfer included her two holes-in-one while a member. In 2005 Bob and Mary Jane moved to Riverside and eventually settled in the Raincross Retirement Center. Mary Jane kept busy playing poker, bridge, and knitting. Mary Jane adored her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She cherished the time spent with all of her family. Mary Jane and Bob were happily married for 65 years when Bob passed away in 2012. Mary Jane was preceded in death by her brother Mason, her parents, her son Terry, and husband Robert. She is survived by her son Michael (Pamela); daughter-in-law Debbie; daughter Jamie Jensen (Robert); and son Patrick (Suzanne). She is also survived by 14 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren. Mary Jane loved her family and friends dearly. Her joy and happiness were contagious and her laugh was infectious. She will be missed dearly by all who have had the pleasure of knowing her. Memorial Service: Thursday, November 14, 2013 at 12:00 noon at Pierce Brothers Crestlawn Chapel, 11500 Arlington Ave., Riverside Ca. Public Interment at Riverside National Cemetery 1:30pm.
