Mary Josephine Boere Obituary
MARY JOSEPHINE BOERE Our beloved wife and mother, Mary Josephine Boere, age 84 years, has entered eternal life on Wednesday, June 18, 2014. She died in the arms of her faithful husband of 62 years, unexpectedly. Her parents, Wouterus (Walter) and Maria (Mary) Kuppens, along with their first born, Petrus (Pete), immigrated from the Netherlands in 1921. The family grew in size to eleven with all of the children being delivered by their father at home on their dairy farm. Mary, the seventh child, was born on February 10, 1930 in Artesia, California. Her family lived in California, Wisconsin, Florida, and then back to California. She was raised and has lived on a dairy her entire life. On May 8, 1952, in a double wedding ceremony, her sister, Catherine Kuppens married Samuel Konyn and she married the love of her life, John Herman Boere, Jr. at Our Lady of the Rosary Catholic Church in Paramount, California. Their first residence was on the John Boere Dairy on Alondra Blvd. in Paramount, California, which was started by John's parents, John and Edna Boere, during the time when Paramount was known as the alfalfa capital of the world in 1925. John and Mary had ten children. The youngest, Michael, lived only eight months. They raised their children on the dairy until they were finally asked to relocate in 1978 out of Los Angeles County. Having the last operating dairy in Paramount, they moved the family dairy to Sun City, California (now Menifee). In 2008, they sold their cows and retired from the dairy business. Mary was a dedicated and loving wife and mother. She loved collecting cow merchandise. In fact she had more cows inside than was outside on the dairy. She loved gardening, playing cards, bingo, slot machines, and watching Laker games and Jeopardy (Mary actually passed suddenly as she was getting ready to watch Jeopardy). She especially enjoyed spending time with her family and extended family. She always looked forward to family events and any kind of family reunion. She was preceded in death by her parents, Walter and Mary Kuppens; her siblings, Pete Kuppens, Gertrude Dutro, Herman Kuppens, Walter Kuppens, Willy Kuppens, Francis Kuppens, and John Kuppens; her son, Michael Glenn Boere; and her grandson, Bo William Bankson. She is survived by her loving husband, John H. Boere, Jr.; her nine children, Johh (Denise) Boere, Gene Boere, Mary (Chris) Smith, Kathleen (Dale) Bankson, Beverly (Tony) Vander Hulst, George (Tammy) Boere, Jim Boere, Patricia (Edwin) Southfield, and Bill (Kim) Boere; her twenty-eight grandchildren, Jennifer (Allen) Souza, Nicole Boere, John Boere, Laura Boere, Gina De Witt, Grant Boere, Cicero Smith, Christian Smith, Jake Bankson, Maggie (Spencer) High, Jack Vander Hulst, Mark Vander Hulst, Diane Vander Hulst, John Vander Hulst, Julia (Eric) Witzka, Joseph Boere, James Boere, Veronica Boere, Steven Boere, Marijo (Steven) Faria, Adrian Southfield, Nick Southfield, Case Southfield, Kayla Boere, John Boere, Brent Boere, Michael Boere, and Matthew Boere; and her 15 great-grandchildren. She will be forever in our hearts. In lieu of flowers we would like donations to be made to (an orphanage in Malawi, Africa) McKallie's Home of Future and Hope, c/o Tracy Hills, 59 West 600 South, Jerome, Idaho 83338. Our mom loved to help children and she would of appreciated your thoughtfulness. Mary's family will receive guests for a time of visitation and viewing from 4-8PM, Thursday, June 26, 2014 at the Evans Brown Mortuary in Sun City, California. Catholic Rosary will begin at 7PM. Funeral Mass of Christian Burial Rite will be the following morning, Friday, June 27, 2014, 10:30 AM at St. Vincent Ferrer Catholic Church in Sun City, California with committal prayers and burial immediately following at the Menifee Valley Memorial Park.
