Marysocorro "Cora" Kennedy Obituary
MARYSOCORRO "CORA" KENNEDY Cora Kennedy of Riverside, CaliforniaCherished wife, daughter, sister, godmother, aunt, grandmother, and teacher at her church, Liberty Baptist of Moreno Valley went home to be in the arms of Jesus whom she dearly loved on Friday night, August 29, 2014. The cause of death was a sudden unexpected heart attack at the age of 58. Cora and her twin sister, Maryann Hubert, were born December 31, 1955, in Manil, Phillipines, to Master Sergeant John and Consolacion (Connie) Oakes. Her father being a career air force man caused the family to move a number of times until they settled in Riverside, California. She graduated from John W. North High School and attended Riverside City College where she received an AA degree. Although a college graduate, Cora gravitated to the restaurant business and worked at Bob's Big Boy (where she met her husband, Bill), Terry's Kitchen, and then The Little Green Onions. After leaving the restaurant business she worked in the family law business, Kennedy & Associates, as well as providing child care to her many nieces and nephews whom she dearly loved. Mrs. Kennedy loved children and worked closely with her church, teaching in the AWANA program as well as with the Vacation Bible Children. Children would flock to her and many would tell her husband, "Miss Cora is my favorite teacher." She recently participated in taking two of her nephews to the Air Force Academy so that they could learn about flying and higher education. On that trip she did the last big adventure or her life, riding the rapids! If you were fortunate to know Cora, you would have been blessed by her smile and love of people. She was always for the little people in life. Cora was preceded in death by her twin sister, Maryann, and her father John D. Oakes. She is survived by her husband, William C. Kennedy; her sisters, Jeanie DeShazo, Florii Aballi, Jessica Oakes; her brothers Bob Oakes and Jay Oakes. She is also survived by her many nephews and nieces. Lastly, she was a step grandmother to her husband's children, Eugene and his wife Jennifer and Victoria Kennedy. She loved her grandchildren as her own. She will be missed more than words can say. Her husband notes that 'she was the love of my life'. A memorial service will be held at 1:00 P.M., Saturday, September 13, 2014 at Acheson & Graham Mortuary 7944 Magnolia Avenue, Riverside, CA. After the memorial service there will be luncheon served at Liberty Baptist Church, 13630 Edgemont St., Moreno Valley, CA 92553. All are requested to come be with her husband, family, and church as we celebrate her life.
