Maxine Elsensohn Obituary
MAXINE ELSENSOHN 12/29/1924 - 11/10/2015 Edith Maxine Elsensohn passed away peacefully on November 10, 2015. A devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, Maxine was deeply loved by both friends and family. The youngest of five children born to Jord and Ida Leota May (Larimore) Ruby, Maxine grew up in rural Iowa, attending local schools. Despite losing her own mother at the age of 7, and growing up during the Depression on an Iowa farm without electricity or running water, Maxine was, throughout her lifetime, one of the most positive and optimistic people that one might ever meet. After graduation from high school, Maxine moved to Ottumwa, Iowa, where she met her future husband, Fred Elsensohn, at a USO dance in 1944. Fred was home on leave from serving in the 8th Air Force during World War II as a bombardier on a B-24. The two were married later that year in Helena, Montana. Maxine and Fred settled down in Martinsburg, Iowa, where they were the proprietors of a hardware store. They moved to nearby Sigourney, Iowa, in 1952, where Fred owned a bottle gas business and Maxine became a homemaker and full-time mother to three daughters. Her family of five lived in Sigourney until 1964, when they relocated to San Jacinto, California. Maxine and Fred moved to Hemet where Maxine worked for the Hemet City Offices during the 1970s. After her retirement, Maxine enjoyed time with family and church activities. A devout Christian, Maxine attended church all her life, sang in the church choir, and acted as a greeter at Sunday services for many years. Maxine's husband of 52 years, Fred Elsensohn preceded her in death in 1996. She is survived by three daughters: Sandra Burtness of Apple Valley, Carol Elsensohn Lewis of Costa Mesa and Lois Elsensohn of Hemet, California. In addition she leaves four grandchildren: Jeffery Dooley, Jennifer Burtness, Joshua and Jessica Elsensohn, and three great-grandchildren: Brandon, Jeremy and Alyssa Dooley. Surrounded by her immediate family, Maxine was buried alongside her husband Fred on November 20, 2015, at the Riverside National Cemetery in Riverside, California. A memorial service for Maxine will be held on Saturday, December 19 at 1:00 at the Hemet Valley Mortuary, 403 North San Jacinto St., Hemet California. Reception to follow.
