Melvin C. Holmes Obituary
March 2, 1942 – April 18, 2017
Mel ("Lucky Mel") was born and raised in California. He served in the U.S. Army where he was fortunate enough to be stationed in Germany. He met Inge ("Inge Mae") while visiting family in Alaska and they married in 1968. They started their family in Las Vegas while Mel worked as a dealer in the casinos. In the late 70s, he found his calling and earned a chiropractic degree. Following his aunt and uncle, June and Wayne Holmes, Mel moved his family to Hemet to start Holmes Chiropractic. Later, his close aunt and uncle, Yvonne and Chris Nielsen, also moved to Hemet.
Dr. Mel, with Inge Mae by his side, served patients in Hemet for almost 30 years, always showing his love for his patients and the people he worked with. He was also an active member in the Exchange Club.
Mel adored his friends and competition - you could often find him laughing while playing golf, cards, bowling, and backgammon or betting on the ponies. He enjoyed hosting people in his home, sharing a great bottle of wine, and giving a heartfelt toast.
Most of all, Mel loved his family. He regularly and voraciously expressed his gratitude and appreciation of Inge Mae - telling everyone who would listen about how lucky he was to have her in his life. Mel also made sure his friends and family knew how much they meant to him.
Living up to his moniker, "Lucky Mel", he suffered a stroke at the bowling alley and passed away hours later without pain.
Mel is survived by his wife Inge of Hemet, his children (and "like children") Melissa, Michael, and Mark Holmes as well as Richard Hines, and his grandson Lars.
There will be a memorial celebration of Mel's life at the Seven Hills Clubhouse on Sunday, April 30, 2017 at 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that you follow in Mel's footsteps and take the time today to express gratitude to the important people in your life.
