Merlin Benedict "Ben" Bossett Obituary
MERLIN "BEN" BENEDICT BOSSETT September 26, 1931 August 8, 2015 Ben was born and raised in Lafayette, Louisiana, one of ten children, to John Winthrop and Della (Mouton) Bossett. He and his wife, Martha Conway, were married in 1955 & were together for 27 years. Ben served in the U.S. Air Force for 22 years and during that time he & Martha became the parents of one daughter, Lorna (Darby) whom he doted on, and four sons, Michael, Keith, Charles and Eric. He and his family were stationed in several European countries and spent many happy years living in Italy, (his favorite), England and Germany before finally being stationed at March Air Force Base. He grew up speaking French and could also converse in Italian, which he loved doing. He continued his government career after retiring from the Air Force, working for both the County of Riverside & the City of Riverside in housing rehabilitation for several years before retiring in 1997. During his retirement he enjoyed listening to jazz and watching football and basketball. He never forgot his fondness for Louisiana creole cooking and spent a number of lovely vacations with his children enjoying crawfish eTouffee! Having visited Hickam Air Force Base for a short time while in the military & enjoying it immensely, "Benito" was eager to go back to visit. His visit turned into several happy vacations on the island of Kauai with his second wife, Jess, whom he married in 1989. For the last several years, he suffered from Alzheimer's disease. Ben is survived by his wife, Martha; his five children; 16 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren and his second wife Jess. No services are planned.
