1927 - 2017 Obituary Condolences
MICHAEL FRANCIS LARKIN
passed away peacefully on December 14, 2017, surrounded by members of his loving family. He was born on June 10, 1927 to Michael F. and Mary Ann Larkin, in St. Louis, MO. Shortly after his birth they moved to Chicago, IL. He loved the city of his youth and always considered it his home. Michael entered the US Air Corps in July 1945. One of his first assignments was in Tulle Bay, Greenland, where he collaborated in writing a book on The History of Greenland. Shortly afterward, he was assigned to Harmon Field, Newfoundland, where he met the love of his life, Charlotte Sheppard. They were married in St.George's, Newfoundland on Dec. 28, 1948 and subsequently became the parents of eight children. Mike's career took the family to bases in Michigan, Texas, Guam, New Mexico and Riverside, CA. His one solo assignment was to Seoul, Korea from 1970-1971. Upon retirement in 1973, Mike began a second career with the Riverside District Attorney's office, Family Support Unit. He thoroughly immersed himself in the job and retired in 1993 as Deputy Chief Family Support Officer. After retiring he and Charlotte spent almost every moment together. He loved to read on a variety of subjects. He loved a good book, a cup of tea and a cookie. Michael was predeceased by Charlotte, his wife of 62 years, his brother Raymond, his son Randall and grandson John. Beloved father of Michael (Mickey), Sheri, Beverly, Corrie, Judy, Ray and Tony. Devoted grandfather of Carrie, Steve, Amber and Xavier; great grandfather to Autumn and uncle to numerous nieces and nephews. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday, January 5, 2018 at 12:00 pm at St. Catherine's of Alexandria Church, 1050 Brockton Ave., Riverside, CA. Interment will follow at Riverside National Cemetery, 22495 Van Buren Blvd., Riverside, CA. The family requests that flowers be delivered to the church. Arrangements entrusted to the care of Akes Family Funeral Home.
