MILDRED G. TYLER It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Mrs. Mildred Geneva Tyler. Mrs. Tyler entered eternal life on Saturday, November 9, 2013 at the age of 87. Mrs. Tyler was born on August 3, 1926 in Luling, TX. to Tom and Zonobia Cabness. She graduated from Roosevelt High School in Luling and attended Huston-Tillotson College in Austin, TX. Mrs. Tyler moved to Riverside with her husband Will and their family in 1962. She initially volunteered at the YMCA, beginning a career with the University of California, Riverside in 1967, during which she served as Recruiter/Outreach Officer, Assistant to Dean of Students, Administrative Assistant and Executive Secretary for the Education Opportunity and Student Affirmative Action Programs. She was an active member of the National Council of Negro Women, California Highway Patrol Safety Planning Committee, City of Riverside County Fair Housing Council, City of Riverside Mayor's Commission of Aging, as well as the African American Historical Society. As a member of the Allen Chapel African Methodist Episcopal Church, Mrs. Tyler served as Secretary, member of the Celestial Choir, Budgeting Committee and the Sistah's Club Mentoring Group. She loved to travel, touring several continents to include Europe, Asia, Africa as well as South America. She leaves to cherish memory her children, Gwendolyn Jones (Charles) of Sacramento,CA., James E.Tyler of Rancho Cucamonga, CA., Dwight D. Tyler (Martha) of Riverside, CA., Tommi L. Tyler of Fontana, CA., Douglas L. Tyler (Faith) of Lawrenceville, GA.; 8 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren; her brother, Donald G. Cabness of Luling, TX., Geraldine Cabness, wife of brother James (deceased) of Luling, TX. and many nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be conducted at Allen Chapel African American Methodist Episcopal Church, 4009 Locust St., Riverside, CA. on Friday, November 22, 2013 at 11:00a.m. Interment will follow at Olivewood Memorial Park, 3300 Central Ave. Riverside, CA. 92506.
