Millie Emmel Obituary
MILLIE EMMEL was born September 11, 1915 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. She had one sister Celia. Her father died when she was only three. Eventually her mother remarried a German engineer and they were a family. As a young adult Millie moved to California where she worked as a secretary in the Palm Springs area. It was in Palm Springs that she met and married, like her mother, an engineer named Keith Herbert. Keith designed Allergen's headquarters in Irvine. As a side investment, Millie and Keith owned a motel in Palm Springs. Eventually they expanded the motel and sold it to the Ramada chain of hotels. During the summers Millie and Keith would spend time at their home in Pine Cove, near Idyllwild. Keith Herbert died in 1970. Millie continued to attend the Community Presbyterian Church in Idyllwild where she eventually met and married Edward Emmel on July 22, 1972. His two sons John and Tom Emmel and their families became her family along with her son. Edward and Millie hosted many potluck dinners and traveled extensively until Edward passed away in 1991. Her family meant everything to her. Eventually Millie moved in with her son Bill in Homeland. In her later years she lived at the Sunwest Retirement Home in Hemet and continued to attend worship services at the First Presbyterian Church of Hemet. Millie loved people, singing, and praising her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Up to her last days she could sing word for word most of the songs of her era. She died Jan. 21 2014. She was 98 years old. She had many friends in the community, in her church and was loved by each of her caregivers. She will be greatly missed. A memorial service celebrating her life is planned for Thursday, March 27 at 10:00 am at the First Presbyterian Church of Hemet, 515 E. Kimball Avenue in Hemet. A private interment will held in Palm Springs.
