Morton Joseph Phillips Obituary
MORTON JOSEPH PHILLIPS Born in Long Beach on January 12, 1924 and passed in his sleep in Sun City on June 30th. He is survived by his long time love and partner, Linda B. Miller; his son, Mark J. Phillips (Sandy); daughters, Kathy Seig (George), and Karen Grant (Steve), and seven grandchildren. He graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School, and attended UC Berkeley. A bombardier in the 8th Army Air Corps, 44th Bomb Group, he flew 25 missions (ten lead) in WWII and returned home a First Lieutenant. Mort was a successful businessman in the furniture, jewelry, and housewares business. As his next adventure, he launched an innovative catalog department store. Later, he owned two AAMCO service centers in Long Beach and handled the pool's advertising. His passions included flying, deep sea fishing, music, dancing, and touring the continent in his bus, the Red Chili Pepper. He spent many winters on the beaches in Matzatlan and Bucerias, Mexico. Affectionately, he was known as "Senor Felipe" by the locals. In 1999, Mort settled in the Menifee area where he served as president on the Board of Directors of "The Club" in Sun City. A celebration of life will be held in Mexico by his family where Mort will be "One More Time."
