Nancy Carol "Kabana" Wenzl Obituary
NANCY CAROL "KABANA" WENZL Dec. 7, 1948 - Dec. 24, 2016 Nancy was taken by the Angels the afternoon of December 24, 2016. She passed on while having her favorite Christmas Carol, Carol of The Bells, sung to her by several members of the church while being held by her Mother, Sister and Husband. Nancy was born on a Tuesday, December 7, 1948 at Aultman Hospital, Canton Ohio, the first surviving daughter of five sisters to Donna and Edward Kabana. She welcomed her sister Georgia Marie fourteen months later February 13 1950 and the two were inseparable in childhood through grade, junior high and high school. Her sister Penny Ann came along in 1957 and was loved by both Nancy and Georgia. Growing up in Canton, Ohio, Nancy attended Dueber and Fairmount grade schools. In 1959 her family relocated to Whittier, California where she attended South Whittier Intermediate and one year at Sierra High School. In 1964 her family moved to Riverside, CA where she had resided for the better part of fifty-two years. In Riverside she graduated from Norte Vista High School, Class of 1966. From an early age Nancy enjoyed poetry and had a poem about the graduating experience published in the final edition of the school's newspaper " The Smoke Signal" in 1966. Nancy has had one poem published, but has left several volumes of poems about her personal life experiences with her family, some funny, some very personal. Her creativity will be enjoyed by, not only her family, but friends as well. In addition to her first love, poetry, she enjoyed scrap booking and has chronicled almost two hundred years worth of family history in many books. Her efforts leave a history in pictures not only of times gone by; but of almost thirty-eight years of marriage to be enjoyed by her survivors while laughing, shedding a few tears and always thinking of Nancy. Complementing her poetry and scrap booking she loved to landscape and do flower arrangements and almost single handedly landscaped her first residence where she lived for thirty six years. Unfortunately her illness precluded her from applying her talents to her new house, but has left a beautiful forest scene with her many stone statuaries of various animals, God's creature's. Nancy's compassion for stray animals is known by those who knew her, all of her dogs and cats over the years were rescued, some even from the freeway. When Nancy loved, she loved unconditionally and expected the same. For those who took the time to know her and experience her unconditional love, it will be sorely missed, she will be in our hearts forever. She is survived by her husband of almost thirty eight years Dean; her mother Donna Muench; sisters Georgia Bowers and Penny Reinhold's; and sons Mike and Mark Avery. A Memorial will be held Saturday, January 7, 2017, 12:00 PM, Palm Baptist Church, 6807 Palm Ave., Riverside, Ca 92506. In lieu of sending flowers, if so inclined, a donation can be made to the ASPCA in her name.
