Nancy Dyer Obituary
Nancy Elizabeth Mallet Dyer, of Riverside, California, was born in Houston, Texas to Verstell Euell Mallett and Nancy Elizabeth Baucom Mallet on April 17, 1927. She passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family at the age of 90 on January 20, 2018.
Nancy's early childhood was spent in San Antonio, TX. during the depression. Her family moved to Corpus Christi, TX. in 1936 when she was 9 years old. She was very active in the youth program at church and the naval air station where her sister worked. She made lifelong friends with wonderful service people from around the globe. Corpus Christi was paradise to her and would be her home until 1968.
Nancy graduated from Corpus Christi High School in 1945. She graduated from Del Mar College in Corpus Christi, TX. in 1948 and attended Hardin Simmons University in Abilene, TX.
Nancy made her first trip to Europe in 1949 when she was 22 years old. She traveled with her friend Kate Halton by ship on the RMS Queen Elizabeth. This would mark the beginning of her life in travel.
Nancy married Thaddeus Milton Dyer in 1951 while working for Braniff International Airways. They had 2 sons. They lived in Corpus Christi and Brownsville, TX. They also lived in a small village in Mexico outside of Monterrey for 2 years where she was a substitute teacher at the American school. She divorced after 14.5 years but remained friends with her former husband until his untimely death in a plane crash in 1976.
Nancy and her sons moved to California in 1968. She began working as a travel agent in 1971 which gave her the opportunity to travel extensively all over the world. She visited over 30 countries in her lifetime. She was able to retire in 2002 at the age of 75 by the grace and goodness of her nephew Frederick William Bowman and his wife Deborah.
Nancy had a good life led by a quiet faith. She was blessed with a wonderful Christian family, amazing friends and great experiences that left lasting memories.
Nancy never met a stranger. She always looked for the best in people and said that there was good in everyone. She rooted for the underdog. The cup was always half-full and there was always a lesson to be learned. She had a wonderful sense of humor and a laugh that was contagious.
Nancy was preceded in death by her parents Verstell and Nan and her sisters and their husbands Edna & George Blevins of Bryan, TX. and Jeanne and Frederick Bowman of Dallas, TX.
She is survived by her son Thaddeus Collins Dyer and his wife Beth of Coeur d'Alene, ID. and her son Roy Stephen Dyer of Sulphur Springs, TX.; her granddaughters Lisa Nicole Dyer of Riverside, CA., Stephanie Ann Dyer of Georgia and Adrian Brenner Hanson of Virginia; her great grandchildren Jaden Dyer, Tabitha Holston and Adam Hanson; her nephews and nieces Frederick William Bowman and wife Deborah of Dallas, TX., Georgia Blevins Kornegay and husband Dean of Rowlett, TX., Mary Bowman Campbell of Dallas, TX., Dr. Nancy Bowman Upton of Bradenton, FL. and Richard Mark Bowman of Houston, TX.; and her dear friends.
