Nancy Gail Warhop Clark Obituary
NANCY GAIL WARHOP CLARK "He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty." - Psalms 91:1 On September 7, 1950, a beautiful baby girl named Nancy Gail Warhop was born to proud parents Betty Elizabeth Clark Warhop and James Henry Warhop, Sr. As the eldest over four siblings, she lived a joy-filled life full of adventures. Her life adventures began by playing on the same street with her siblings and seven Warhop cousins, who were a part of the "Warhop 12", or playing in the yard at her grandparents' Nancy and Willie Clark's farm with her Clark cousins. On the farm, she admired the leadership of her Aunt Jean Clark and Uncle Percy Clark, cousins Sharon Clark Hayes and Donald Clark. She played with childhood next door neighbors, Marcelle, Franklin and Shezwae Powell. She was a Girl Scout led by community icon Eddie Dee Smith, her Troop Leader, who initiated a "rainbow" troop of all cultures and races designed to empower young girls. As an excellent academic achiever, Nancy attended Ina Arbuckle Elementary School, Jurupa Junior High School and graduated from Rubidoux High School in 1968. She studied business courses that catapulted her career as an Executive Secretary. After high school, she worked as an Administrative Assistant for the University of California, Riverside (UCR). Some of her fondest memories were encouraging UCR Chemistry Department students to accomplish greatness and live their dreams. In 1996, Nancy began her career as an Administrative Assistant for the Riverside Press Enterprise Newspaper. In 2008, she was promoted to News Administrator and worked as an Executive Assistant for the Editor. She assisted in the planning of the Press Enterprise Reader's Choice Awards and sport writers' boot camps. She loved after hours celebrations with reporters and support staff who became dear friends. She particularly enjoyed playing poker and listening to the great sounds of former Press Enterprise Columnist Dan Bernstein's band. While working at the Press Enterprise, Maria DeVarenne and Angie Perkins became Nancy's cherished friends. Throughout her life, she cherished and maintained many lifelong friendships. Family was important to Nancy. Not only did she love her biological family, she loved friends as family members along the way. Rita Alexander and Nancy met in the first grade and became lifelong Sisterfriends. Nancy loved watching soap operas with her Aunt Cleotha Warhop, "Uncle Son" Travis Coleman and cousin LaVerne Gandy, sharing books with childhood neighbor Juanita Powell, donating books to the North Rubidoux Women's Club, the Eddie Dee Smith Senior Citizen Center and Beaumont High School FHA HERO's student organization, and cooking as a gourmet chef for cousins Jacille Clark and Constance Daniels Clemons. She also shared some joyful moments with her Aunt Rachel Warhop, cousins Deborah Robertson-Burnett and Joyce Gentry. She touched the hearts of family members and friends in numerous ways with her words of encouragement, smiles and laughter. She was married to James Wesley Clark. They were blessed with a sweet baby daughter Anitra Elizabeth. Nancy later married Peyton Penniman who so lovingly helped her raise her younger cousins, Lyndy and Donald Martin Warhop. At that time, she became a foster parent. In 1993, a beautiful baby named Tara Elizabeth entered into Nancy's life with such great love and happiness. Nancy departed from this world on Saturday, March 7, 2015. Her parents, Betty and James Warhop, Sr. and brother James Warhop, Jr. preceded her in death. Those she leaves to honor and cherish her life are her daughters, Anitra Clark and Tara Clark-Schulte, sisters Joyce Warhop and Valerie Warhop, and brother John Warhop (Cathy). Also celebrating her life are her nieces and nephews, whom she called her special "angels," including Tynisha Warhop, Juanita Salitre, Jamila Lenoir, Brianna Warhop, Deidre Alexander, Leah Alexander, nephews Raymond Warhop (Roxanna), Jo'Mar Lenoir (Yesenia), Jonathan Caldwell (Kimberly), Jo'Von Lenoir, Anthony Kelly, Jr., Jesse Kelly, Raymond Solorio, Thomas Hernandez, James Warhop III, grand-nephews Michael Welch, Raymond Warhop, Donovan Warhop, Roudy Hendrix, grand-nieces Ruby Warhop, Serenity Caldwell, Cassandra Lenoir as well as a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. A visitation will be held at Acheson and Graham Garden of Prayer Mortuary, 7944 Magnolia Ave., Riverside, California, on Tuesday night from 5:00pm to 8:00pm with a chapel service held at Acheson and Graham the following morning at 10:00am. Graveside services will be at Olivewood Memorial Park, 3300 Central Ave., Riverside, California. A repass will be held in Nancy's honor at Bordwell Park, 2008 Martin Luther King Blvd., Riverside, California, following the Graveside Service.
