NORTON DEE OLIVER 1928-2015 A devoted husband, loving father, grandfather and great-grandfather, entered eternal life on April 29, 2015, at the age of 86. He was born in Hartford, KY on August 18, 1928, then the family relocated in 1936 to South Gate, Ca. Norte attended South Gate High School where he was on the Gymnastics team and made lifelong friendships. After graduation, he enlisted in the Army in 1946 where he was a certified Paratrooper with the 11th Airborne Division and later deployed to Japan. He returned home in 1948. He later married his wife Joan T. Oliver where they immediately started a family and had three daughters and resided in Norwalk, CA. The couple pursued the "American Dream" by starting their own business called Quality Boring Co. Faith and family time was a priority. Girls' activities, camping, motorcycles, water skiing, friends were fun! Norte was married to Joan for 28 years and later retired. In time, Norte would marry JoAnn Money of Lake Elsinore, Ca. They together built a home and life of 27 years as athletes and travel companions where they visited faraway places. A favorite place to pilgrimage to 12 times was the Ironman in Hawaii that helped motivate the couple. Often you could see the couple running throughout their community, Lake Elsinore/Lakeland Village, accompanied by their golden retriever "Noah". JoAnn Oliver passed away on March 16, 2014. Norte's lifestyle was about balance and passion and "Never Quitting". He enjoyed daily workouts with weights, handstands and his high bar. His love for motorcycles led him to participate in the Barstow to Vegas & Lake Elsinore Grand Prix. His love for exercise and competition lead him to participate in 5 & 10Ks, Bi-Triathlons' starting at age 60 to 80s. Norte was a small but mighty man; he was large in character and devoted to faith, family, country, fitness, work, and lifelong friendships. He was loved and admired by so many. Norte is survived by 4 daughters, 9 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren. A Celebration of Life was held at South Shores Church in Monarch Beach, CA. on May 20th, 2015. The Eulogy was given by his son-in-law John Mellotti of Laguna Niguel, Ca. Pastor Ty Guy officiated and Pastor Barry from Coast Hills Community Church delivered the message. Full military honors were given by Captain Greg Akers, a dear friend of the Mellotti family. The flag was presented to Judy Oliver Mellotti, his eldest daughter. Judy stated, Dad said, "God blessed me with a beautiful life."
