Paul Bowden Paynter Obituary
PAUL BOWDEN PAYNTER Paul died on October 3, 2015. He was 87 and had lived in the Riverside area since 1955. Paul was a retired Assistance Superintendent of the Riverside Unified School District. He joined the District in 1955, after one year of teaching in Wisconsin. He served as a teacher, counselor and school administrator, but much of his career was spent in District personnel and employee relation functions. After initially serving as a Personnel Administrator, he later was appointed as Assistant Superintendent for Personnel Services (Human Resources). In addition to supervising the District personnel operation, he served as the District Labor Relations Officer and the Chief Negotiator for labor relations matters. He retired in 1989. He was born on July 3, 1928 in Wisconsin. He earned his Bachelors' Degree in 1949 and Masters' Degree in 1955, both at the University of Wisconsin - Madison. He did additional graduate work at the University of Redlands, Claremont Graduate University and UCR. Paul enlisted in the United States Air Force shortly after the beginning of the Korean War in 1950. Within a year he was commissioned as a Medical Administrative Officer, and served on active duty in that role for an additional three years, including service in Japan and Korea. Following his active duty, he remained in the USAF Reserve, resigning in 1970 with the rank of Major. Paul was preceded in death by his wife Elizabeth (Bette) Paynter. He is survived by step daughter Cynthia Jiacoma, Riverside; son-in-law Floyd Jiacoma, Riverside; 5 grandchildren Robert, Brianne (Rob), Shawn (Jenny), Patrick (Brittany) and Corey (Sarah); 7 great-grandchildren and a brother. He will be deeply missed by all.
